Installation Guidelines

CRITICAL WARNING: Always de-energize the host SCALANCE switch and follow lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures before installing or removing media modules. Failure to disconnect power can result in equipment damage and risk of electric shock. Handle fiber optic cables with care to avoid damage to the core and connectors.
  1. 1 Verify that the host SCALANCE X switch is powered down and that the target slot for the media module is clean and free of debris.
  2. 2 Use a properly grounded electrostatic discharge (ESD) wrist strap to prevent static damage to the module's electronic components.
  3. 3 Carefully unpack the MM992-2ELH module. Do not remove the protective dust caps from the SC ports until you are ready to connect the fiber optic cables.
  4. 4 Align the module with the guides in the empty slot on the SCALANCE switch and slide it in gently until it is fully seated and clicks into place.
  5. 5 Clean the ferrules of the single-mode fiber optic cables using appropriate fiber optic cleaning tools. Remove the dust caps from the module's SC ports and connect the cables.
  6. 6 Once all connections are secure, you may re-energize the SCALANCE switch. Verify the link status LEDs on the module to confirm a successful connection.
