Description

The Triconex 3351 is a reliable hardware assembly designed for fault-tolerant operation within the Trident safety system architecture. As a dedicated Analog Input Module, this unit provides the essential data acquisition layer for low point counts and distributed industrial safety networks. To enforce the highest level of continuous operation, each module is engineered with three isolated channels that independently process analog inputs received from field devices. Every individual channel securely transmits its processed input variables directly to the specific Main Processor (MP) associated with that channel loop. The system MPs vote the data automatically before passing it to the safety application, eliminating any single point of failure in critical process variables.

Features

  • Equipped with three distinct isolated channels to preserve complete loop independence
  • Processes incoming analog signal values directly from connected field devices
  • Operates seamlessly with the system Main Processors using automated hardware voting mechanisms
  • Fits perfectly into low point count configurations and distributed system topologies

Applications

  • Emergency Shutdown (ESD) architectures
  • Burner Management Systems (BMS)
  • Fire and Gas (F&G) protective control systems
  • Distributed fault-tolerant safety monitoring

Installation Guidelines

  • Module Placement: Seat the 3351 module onto the appropriate connectors of an approved 2351 or 2352 baseplate structure within the column configuration.
  • Environmental Shielding: Ensure that all unused or exposed baseplate slots are protected using the standard 2900 slot covers to keep components safe from dust and liquids.
  • Unwired Contact Guarding: Mount proper 2901 terminal covers over any open terminals that are not actively connected to live field wiring paths.

Technical Datasheet

Triconex 3351 Trident Analog Input Module

How does the module ensure accurate signal reading for critical safety software?

The module uses three isolated channels to capture data from field devices and sends the inputs to matching Main Processors, which vote the data before passing it to the application.

Which standard baseplate kits are explicitly compatible with this module?

This module is designed to fit onto the 2351 Analog Input Baseplate Kit or the 2352 Analog Input Baseplate Kit for TC, RTD, and 4-20mA signals.

What standard accessories are necessary to protect the baseplate connectors during operation?

Accessories such as slot covers, terminal covers, and end caps are necessary to fully protect the active and inactive sections from dust and ambient liquids.
