Connections and Interfaces

Connector / Terminal Function / Circuit Assignment
Supply Connections L1-0 to L1-7: Isolated AC/DC supply commons (Cut to Length)• DC-2 (H): Isolated DC supply common (Cut to Length)
Output Connections OUT-0 N.O. to OUT-7 N.O.: Individually isolated Form A (Normally Open) relay contacts
Mechanical Jumper Bar: For daisy chaining L1 supply to adjacent RTBs

Note: Connections are made via the removable 36-pin terminal block (1756-TBCH or 1756-TBS6H).

Field Installation Guidelines

CRITICAL RISK ASSESSMENT: ARC FLASH HAZARD AND EXPLOSION POTENTIAL. Do not disconnect mechanical wiring links or slide the Removable Terminal Block (RTB) off the locking connectors while active line voltages feed the contact termination blocks. High-potential energy fields present at relay output pins can arc, destroying the module or triggering localized power interruptions.
1

Chassis Alignment: Align the plastic card-guides of the module with the top and bottom channels of the target slot in the 1756 ControlLogix chassis bank.

2

Seating Mechanism: Slide the assembly firmly inward until the structural locking tabs click securely into place, bonding the dual-connector core to the active backplane interface.

3

Field Wire Termination: Strip your field cables to length, land the isolated AC/DC power lines onto the specific 36-pin RTB terminal blocks, and torque down the compression terminal screws to standard limits.

4

Surge Suppression: Install external surge suppression devices (such as varistors or snubbers) directly across inductive field loads to shield the internal mechanical relay contacts from high-voltage inductive kickback spikes.

5

RTB Mating: Push the pre-wired 1756-TBCH or 1756-TBSH block directly over the interface pins, snap the locking latch down, and thread the central retaining fasteners tightly to secure the field interface.

What is the key advantage of individual channel-to-channel isolation on this relay assembly?

It provides complete electrical separation between points. This allows you to mix different AC line phases, voltage sources, or independent DC ground networks safely within a single physical module without cross-talk or short-circuits.

Does this contact module support immediate field replacement while under live chassis power?

Yes. The module is fully engineered to support Removal and Insertion Under Power (RIUP) workflows. You can swap the hardware out without downing the rest of the operational processing racks.

Why is external surge suppression recommended for the contact points?

Relay contact points are susceptible to wear from electrical arcing when driving inductive loads like solenoids or coils. Adding external suppression extends contact life and keeps high-frequency switching noise out of local electronics.
