Product Overview

The IS200TRPGH1B is a high-reliability Primary Trip Terminal Board designed by General Electric for the Mark VI and Mark VIe Gas Turbine Control Systems. It serves as the critical interface between the turbine control logic and the Electrical Trip Devices (ETDs) or trip solenoids. The "H1B" version is specifically engineered for TMR (Triple Modular Redundant) applications, utilizing nine magnetic relays to form a hardware-based two-out-of-three (2oo3) voting circuit for each of the three trip solenoids. In addition to trip functions, the board supports the monitoring of up to eight Geiger-Mueller flame detectors, providing essential flame-out protection for gas turbine operations.

Core Functionality & Operation

Trip Solenoid Voting

The TRPG board is the hardware execution point for turbine protection. In a TMR system, three separate I/O signals (R, S, and T) are sent to the board. The IS200TRPGH1B uses a relay ladder logic circuit to perform hardware voting.

  • H1A/H1B: 3 relays per solenoid (9 total) for 2oo3 voting.

  • H2A/H2B: 1 relay per solenoid for Simplex applications.

Interface with TREG

The TRPG works in tandem with the TREG (Emergency Trip Terminal Board). While TRPG handles primary trip commands and Overspeed protection from the controller (VTUR or PTUR), TREG is managed by the VPRO emergency system. These two boards together form the complete interface to the ETDs, ensuring that either the primary or emergency systems can safely shut down the turbine.

Flame Detection

The board provides a high-voltage 335 VDC supply for up to eight flame detectors. These Geiger-Mueller sensors detect the ultraviolet radiation produced by the turbine flame. The TRPG transmits these signals back to the I/O board for real-time combustion monitoring.

Installation & Wiring Connections

Connector Function
J1 125 VDC Power input for trip solenoids
J2 Power supply output to the TREG board
J3, J4, J5 Connection points for flame detector power
JR1, JS1, JT1 Connections to the I/O Controller (R, S, T)
Terminal Block 1 Field wiring for the 3 Trip Solenoids
Terminal Block 2 Field wiring for the 8 Flame Detectors

Diagnostics and Safety Features

The I/O controller (VTUR or PTUR) continuously monitors the TRPG for internal and external health:

  • Relay Feedback: Monitors normally closed contacts to ensure relays have successfully transitioned.

  • Voltage Monitoring: Tracks the 125 VDC solenoid bus and the 335 VDC flame excitation voltage; warnings are triggered if levels are outside limits.

  • Electronic ID: Each connector (JR1, JS1, JT1) includes a "Plug-and-Play" ID chip. The controller reads this to verify the correct board type, revision, and serial number, preventing hardware mismatches during installation.

Comparison: Mark VI vs. Mark VIe Integration

  • Mark VI: The board interfaces with the VTUR board located in the VME rack via cables with molded plugs.

  • Mark VIe: The board is controlled by PTUR I/O packs mounted on a TTURH1C terminal board, which then connects to the TRPG via D-type connectors.
