Description
Optimized for machinery protection systems, the Bently Nevada 330103-08-13-10-02-CN is an unthreaded 8 mm proximity probe designed to provide highly accurate, non-contact measurements of shaft vibration and position. As an integral component of the 3300 XL 8 mm Proximity Transducer System, this probe performs exceptionally well in harsh industrial environments. It features an 80 mm unthreaded length option and a 130 mm overall case length, making it ideal for deep-insertion or bracket-mounted monitoring configurations. Built with a rugged polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) tip and a stainless steel case, the probe maintains an airtight differential pressure seal using an integrated Viton O-ring.
The system is configured with a 1.0-meter (3.3 feet) cable and terminated with a miniature coaxial ClickLoc connector, ensuring secure mechanical and electrical connections without the risk of loose threads or high-frequency interference. This variant carries the CN agency approval option, certifying it for use in country-specific localized hazardous installations.
Features
-
Unthreaded Case Design: Designed for slide-fit or specialized clamp block mounting in complex turbine casings.
-
High-Performance PPS Tip: Polyphenylene sulfide tip material offers chemical resistance and thermal stability under continuous operation.
-
Viton O-Ring Sealing: Seals against high differential pressures to prevent process media from bypassing the mounting thread.
-
ClickLoc Coaxial Connection: Gold-plated miniature coaxial connection prevents high-frequency signal loss and ensures positive lock feedback.
-
Corrosion-Resistant Housing: Standard AISI 303 or 304 stainless steel sleeve guarantees mechanical durability.
Applications
-
Dynamic Shaft Vibration: Continuous monitoring of radial and axial shaft vibration in critical turbomachinery.
-
Thrust Position Measurement: High-reliability measurement of axial rotor movement in high-speed compressors.
-
Eccentricity & Phase Reference: Provides keyphasor input or eccentricity tracking on massive steam turbine rotors.
-
Heavy Industry Deployment: Suitable for oil and gas refineries, petrochemical plants, and power generation facilities.

Empirical Engineering Insights
Alternative Models & Compatibility: The 330103 model is exclusively compatible with 3300 XL series Proximitor sensors. While it mechanically fits into mounting holes designed for older 7200 series 8 mm probes, it must never be paired with 7200 Proximitor sensors as their electrical impedances are incompatible, leading to massive scale factor calibration errors (deviation from the standard 7.87 V/mm output).
Application Pitfalls & Engineering Notes: Unthreaded probes depend entirely on a external clamping mechanism or sleeve to maintain depth adjustment. Ensure clamping devices are tightened to the correct torque; under-tightening can cause the probe to slip and strike the shaft, completely destroying the PPS tip, while over-tightening can crimp the stainless steel barrel and pinch the internal coaxial transmission line.
Commissioning & Wiring Tips: Always clean the miniature coaxial ClickLoc interfaces with dry, residue-free contact cleaner before locking them. Even microscopic dust or moisture films on the coaxial interface will act as a high-frequency resistance, manifesting as phantom shaft vibration or anomalous "spike" faults during high-speed run-up.
Installation Guidelines
CRITICAL WARNING: De-energize and lock out all machinery prior to probe adjustment or installation. High-voltage static discharge or sudden shaft rotation during dynamic positioning will cause severe machinery damage and terminal probe failure.
1
Carefully insert the unthreaded barrel into the clamping sleeve, taking precaution not to drag the PPS tip against the internal threads of the mounting block.
2
Utilize a calibrated gap voltmeter connected to the Proximitor sensor's output to establish the required electrical bias (typically -10.0 V DC for standard physical gap calibration).
3
Secure the clamping sleeve lock nut to OEM torque limits. Verify that the cable exit routing prevents physical tension or sharp bends near the miniature coaxial connector joint.
