Description

Processing analog standard signals in the range from 0 to 20 mA, the BECKHOFF KS3012 Bus Terminal provides reliable, galvanically isolated data acquisition directly to the K-bus system. Featuring two differential inputs with a 12-bit resolution, this unit offers high-accuracy signal conversion within approximately 2 ms. The pluggable wiring level characteristic of the KS series allows system operators to quickly exchange the terminal block during maintenance without disturbing existing field wiring connections.

This module operates with an internal resistance of 80 Ohms combined with a diode voltage of 0.7 V, supporting a maximum common-mode voltage of 35 V. It is designed to mount seamlessly onto standard 35 mm DIN rails, offering space-saving integration inside compact control cabinets.

Features

  • Two differential analog inputs designed for 0 to 20 mA standard signal currents.
  • Pluggable connection level simplifies field wiring, module swap-out, and cabinet commissioning.
  • High-resolution 12-bit digitization with a conversion time of approximately 2 ms.
  • Low measuring error of less than +/-0.3% relative to the full-scale value.
  • Electrical isolation of 500 V between the internal K-bus and the field signal voltage.
  • Robust polycarbonate housing with a double slot and key connection for reliable side-by-side mounting.

Applications

  • Chemical and petrochemical process control systems.
  • Water, wastewater, and environmental utility monitoring.
  • Industrial machine tool and assembly line automation.
  • Energy management and power generation systems.

Installation Guidelines

Mount the KS3012 terminal directly onto a standard 35 mm DIN rail (EN 60715) ensuring the locking mechanism clicks securely. When wiring, insert a small flat-head screwdriver into the spring release slot to open the clamp, insert the stripped wire (9 to 10 mm), and remove the tool to secure the connection. Ensure signal wiring is physically separated from high-power distribution lines to minimize electromagnetic interference.

What is the primary operational difference between the Beckhoff KS and KL series?

The KS series terminals feature a pluggable wiring level. This allows the terminal block to be easily unplugged and replaced during maintenance without disconnecting the physical field wires, whereas standard KL terminals require individual wire extraction.

What signal range and resolution does the KS3012 support?

The KS3012 features two differential inputs supporting a standard signal current of 0 to 20 mA with a resolution of 12 bits.

Does the KS3012 module require external power contacts?

No, the KS3012 does not utilize power contacts. It is powered internally directly via the standard K-bus.
