EL3062 vs EL3062-0030: The Input Range Changes

The EL3062 is a 0–10 V EtherCAT terminal. The EL3062-0030 is a 0–30 V variant. This checklist covers identification, scaling and commissioning.

Beckhoff uses similar catalog numbers for two different two-channel analog input terminals. The EL3062 measures 0 to 10 V. The EL3062-0030 measures 0 to 30 V.

Both are 12-bit, single-ended EtherCAT terminals. The suffix changes the electrical range and the allowed input voltage.

Check the Full Catalog Number

Read the catalog number from the side label. Do not identify the terminal from its width, LEDs or channel count.

  • EL3062: 0 to 10 V
  • EL3062-0030: 0 to 30 V

Record the full catalog number in the I/O list, drawings and spare-parts register. A missing suffix can produce the wrong engineering scale after replacement.

Confirm the Channel Reference

Both channels are single-ended and share a reference ground. That reference is not connected to the power contacts.

Check the field transmitter’s output reference before moving conductors. A correct voltage range does not fix a reference or grounding error.

Review Scaling Before Downloading Logic

Use the module range in the PLC or TwinCAT scaling block. Do not copy a 0–10 V scale into a channel fitted with the -0030 variant.

For a known input voltage, compare three values:

  1. The voltage measured at the terminal.
  2. The raw process value read over EtherCAT.
  3. The engineering value shown in the control program.

A mismatch between the first two points suggests wiring, range or terminal identification. A mismatch after the raw value points to software scaling.

Do Not Treat 30 V as a Universal Limit

Beckhoff lists 30 V as the EL3062-0030 signal range and 40 V as its maximum dielectric strength. The standard EL3062 page lists a 10 V signal range and 30 V maximum dielectric strength.

These figures are not permission to apply arbitrary overvoltage. Use the operating range for measurement and follow Beckhoff documentation for protection and wiring.

Commission One Channel at a Time

  1. Verify EL3062 or EL3062-0030 on the label.
  2. Confirm the EtherCAT position and terminal order.
  3. Check the shared reference ground.
  4. Apply a known test voltage within the selected range.
  5. Compare measured, raw and scaled values.
  6. Test diagnostic behavior under the site procedure.
  7. Save the final I/O map and scaling parameters.

See the PLC ProTech EL3062-0030 product record for the stocked order code and terminal data.
