ABB PM891K01 Replacement: Check Redundancy Before Ordering

ABB PM891K01 article 3BSE053241R1 is the non-redundant AC 800M processor kit. Use this field checklist before replacement.

ABB lists PM891K01 article 3BSE053241R1 as a non-redundant AC 800M processor unit. The wider PM891 platform supports CPU redundancy, so the family name alone is not enough for replacement selection.

Start With the Installed Order Code

Record both PM891K01 and 3BSE053241R1 from the installed hardware. Also record the connected CEX-Bus modules and the Control Network port assignments.

The PM891K01 product page lists the verified electrical, interface and dimensional data.

What the Hardware Provides

  • Two 10/100 Mbit/s RJ45 ports connect the controller to the Control Network.
  • COM4 is an isolated RJ45 RS-232C service port fixed at 9,600 baud.
  • The CEX-Bus accepts communication interfaces; ABB lists capacity for 12 modules.
  • The optical Modulebus supports seven S800 I/O clusters, up to 84 modules.
  • The processor requires 24 V DC within 19.2–30 V DC.
  • The unit has no internal backup battery.

Records to Capture Before Shutdown

  • Control Builder version, project backup and controller firmware.
  • Control Network addresses for CN1 and CN2.
  • CEX-Bus module order and any BC810 segmentation.
  • Optical Modulebus connections and S800 I/O cluster order.
  • Any redundancy links on the installed system.

This work is easier when the control design already documents scan, memory and communications. See Inside the PLC CPU for the underlying controller checks.

Commissioning Check

Apply power before reconnecting every dependent interface. Confirm controller health, firmware compatibility and network addressing first. Reconnect communication and I/O paths in the recorded order, then compare diagnostics with the pre-shutdown record.
