The 5069-L310ERM is a high-performance, mid-range controller within the CompactLogix 5380 family. It is designed to meet the high-speed processing and data-intensive requirements of modern "smart" machines. This controller is a significant step up from the entry-level L306 model, offering expanded memory and node capacity while maintaining the same compact form factor.
| Parameter | Specification Details |
| User Memory | 1 MB |
| Integrated Motion | Up to 4 axes (CIP Motion over EtherNet/IP) |
| Ethernet Nodes | Supports up to 24 nodes |
| Local I/O Capacity | Up to 8 local 5069 Compact I/O modules |
| Communication Ports | 2 Ethernet (Gigabit) / 1 USB 2.0 (Programming) |
| Non-volatile Memory | 2 GB (via 1784-SD2 card) |
| Programming | Studio 5000 Logix Designer (v28 or later) |
The "M" designation confirms this controller is motion-capable. It supports up to 4 axes of coordinated CIP Motion, allowing for precise control of servo drives (like the Kinetix 5500 or 5700) over a standard Ethernet network. It can also manage up to 256 non-integrated motion axes.
Equipped with dual 1-Gbps Ethernet ports, the 5069-L310ERM supports high-speed data exchange and flexible network topologies:
Dual-IP Mode: Allows the controller to have two different IP addresses—one for the machine-level I/O network and one for the plant-level enterprise network—improving security and traffic isolation.
Linear/DLR Mode: Supports Device Level Ring (DLR) for high network availability; if one cable in the ring breaks, the system continues to communicate without interruption.
Part of the 5380 series, this controller features a high-speed backplane that significantly reduces I/O scan times compared to the older 1769 CompactLogix series. This makes it an excellent choice for applications requiring rapid safety reaction times or high-speed registration.
How does the 5069-L310ERM compare to the 5069-L306ERM?
The L310ERM offers nearly double the user memory (1 MB vs 0.6 MB), supports more Ethernet nodes (24 vs 16), and doubles the number of supported CIP motion axes (4 vs 2).
What power is required for this controller?
It requires a dual-feed DC power supply:
MOD Power (18-32V DC): Powers the controller's internal logic.
SA Power (18-32V DC): Provides power for the field-side circuitry of the connected I/O modules.
Does it require a battery for program backup?
No. The 5069-L310ERM uses an internal energy storage module (capacitors) to write the program to non-volatile memory during a power loss, eliminating the need for lithium batteries.
Mounting: Horizontal mounting on a standard 35 mm DIN rail is required. Ensure at least 50 mm (2 in.) of clearance above and below the unit for convection cooling.
Module Placement: The controller must be the leftmost module in a local 5069 I/O bank.
Removable Terminal Blocks (RTB): Ensure you have the required RTB (typically 5069-RTB18 or 5069-RTB14) to connect the MOD and SA power feeds, as these are often sold separately.
The 5069-L310ERM is ideal for applications that have outgrown the memory constraints of entry-level controllers but do not yet require the high axis counts of the L320 or L330 models. Its Gigabit Ethernet performance ensures that the controller can handle the increased traffic of modern IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) devices and high-resolution HMI screens without compromising logic execution speed.
