The "M" in the catalog number signifies integrated motion support. It can coordinate up to 4 axes of CIP Motion, allowing for synchronized control of Kinetix servo drives. Crucially, this includes CIP Safety over EtherNet/IP, enabling safe speed, safe direction, and safe torque off (STO) functions to be managed over the same network cable as the standard control data.

What is the difference between the 5069-L310ERM and the 5069-L310ERMS2?
The L310ERM is a standard controller with motion support. The L310ERMS2 adds a dedicated 0.5 MB safety memory partition and the internal diagnostics required to be certified for SIL 2 safety applications.
Can I use standard 5069 I/O modules with this controller?
Yes. You can mix standard 5069 I/O modules for non-safety tasks and 5069-IB8S / OBV8S safety modules for safety tasks in the same local rack or on the same remote EtherNet/IP network.
Does this controller require a safety partner module?
No. Unlike the older 1756 GuardLogix systems that required a primary and a safety partner, the Compact GuardLogix 5380 series (like the L310ERMS2) is a self-contained safety controller.
Safety Signatures: Once the safety logic is validated, the controller generates a unique safety signature. Any change to the safety code changes this signature, providing a clear audit trail for regulatory compliance (e.g., OSHA or CE).
