Engineering & Installation Guide

M8 Interface Torque and Shielding:

When installing the EtherCAT cables, the M8 connectors should be tightened to the manufacturer's specified torque (typically 0.4 Nm) to ensure a gas-tight seal and reliable shielding continuity. Use only shielded Cat.5 or higher cables with M8 4-pin D-coded connectors to maintain the 100BASE-TX signal integrity over the maximum 100 m distance.

Wiring and Power Distribution:

The EK1100-0008 provides two separate 24 VDC supply paths. Connect the $U_S$ (System) supply to pins 1 and 5, and the $U_P$ (Peripheral/Field) supply to pins 2 and 6. Use the spring-actuated terminals for wiring; solid or stranded wires between 0.08 and 2.5 mm² are supported. Ensure a stripping length of 8–9 mm to guarantee proper contact. If the field devices draw more than 10 A, you must use a new power feed terminal to prevent damage to the internal power contacts.

Installation Position and Thermal Management:

While the installation position is variable, horizontal mounting on a 35 mm DIN rail is recommended for optimal heat dissipation. Ensure the "double slot and key" connection is properly engaged with the adjacent terminal to maintain the integrity of the E-bus data contacts. In environments reaching the upper limit of 60 deg C, maintain at least 30 mm of vertical clearance for natural convection.
