The FR-A820-11K-1 is the direct legacy replacement path for the older FR-A720-11K series. Mounting footprint dimensions remain highly compatible; however, if upgrading from an A720, utilize Mitsubishi FR Configurator2 software to extract and convert the parameter block. Be aware that the A800 series introduces a dedicated 24 VDC control circuit power input, allowing you to maintain communications and safety feedback even when primary three-phase power is disconnected.
When sizing this drive for high-altitude environments, you must derate the output current by 1% for every 100 meters above 1000 meters sea level (up to a maximum of 2500 meters). To prevent nuisance overvoltage trips (E.OV3) during aggressive deceleration profiles, monitor Parameter 8 (Deceleration Time). If short stopping sequences are mandatory, install an external brake resistor connected directly across terminals P/+ and PR, and ensure Parameter 30 (Regenerative function selection) is configured correctly.
To configure analog terminal input behaviors, always verify the status of the voltage/current selection slide switches located behind the control terminal cover. For example, if Terminal 4 is used for a 4-20mA feedback loop, the hardware switch must match the corresponding firmware settings in Parameter 267. Always route your low-voltage control signals through a separate conduit from high-voltage motor output lines (U, V, W) to mitigate electromagnetic interference and potential signal drift.
CRITICAL WARNING: HAZARDOUS VOLTAGE
Isolate all input power connections before mounting or servicing. Wait a minimum of 10 minutes after disconnecting source voltage to allow internal DC bus capacitors to discharge safely. Measure DC voltage across terminal points P/+ and N/-; ensure it is less than 30 VDC before performing physical installation work.
