Description

Option 28 (3300 XL 8 mm probe with Multiple Approvals) and Option 15 (1.5 in standoff adapter) specify this PROXPAC XL Proximity Transducer configuration — 330880-28-15-35-00-02. This specific integrated transducer assembly features a 3.5 in (89 mm) probe penetration sleeve (Option 35) paired with a 3/4-14 NPT mounting thread (Option 02) and no pre-installed conduit fittings (Option 00). Unlike standard configurations that rely on separate extension cables and distant Proximitor housings, this assembly contains both the 3300 XL 8 mm probe and its matching Proximitor sensor in one self-contained, protective housing. This integrated design minimizes the risk of signal attenuation and simplifies installation in severe industrial rotating machinery environments.

The main housing body is constructed from glass-reinforced polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) thermoplastic containing conductive fibers. This thermoplastic composite protects the internal sensor, dissipates electrostatic charges, and resists harsh industrial solvents. The internal probe cable consists of a 1-meter, 75-ohm triaxial cable insulated with fluoroethylene propylene (FEP) and joined with gold-plated brass ClickLoc connectors. The housing is rated for Type 4X and IP66 environments, sealing out hose-directed water and moisture from the electrical connection points.

Features

  • Option 28 Probe Integration: Pre-installed 3300 XL 8 mm proximity probe with Multiple Approvals (CSA, ATEX, and IECEx) for hazardous locations.
  • Option 15 Standoff Adapter: Includes a 1.5 in (38 mm) standoff adapter to handle specific mounting offsets on the machine casing.
  • Option 35 Penetration Sleeve: Fixed 3.5 in (89 mm) probe penetration depth ensures precise clearance from the target surface.
  • Option 02 Mounting Thread: Standard 3/4-14 NPT outer mounting thread required for securing the standoff adapter.
  • No Fittings Configuration: Option 00 provides two blanking plugs and two washers in place of external conduit adapters.
  • Integrated Proximitor: Removes the need for a separate extension cable or dedicated external junction box by routing field wiring directly to the housing cover.
  • Anti-Static PPS Housing: Glass-reinforced polyphenylene sulfide contains conductive fibers to strengthen the outer assembly and safely ground static charge.

Applications

  • Shaft vibration and axial position measurement on high-speed industrial rotating machinery.
  • Fluid-film bearing monitoring in steam turbines, gas turbines, and large centrifugal compressors.
  • Machinery protection setups where mechanical space is constrained, eliminating the need for remote Proximitor enclosures.
  • Severe industrial environments requiring protection against corrosive chemical washes, moisture, and extreme temperatures.

Installation Guidelines

  • Adjusting the Probe Gap: Set the initial probe gap to the midpoint of the 2.0 mm (80 mils) linear range. This corresponds to an output voltage of approximately -10 Vdc (or 1.27 mm / 50 mils clearance). Adjust the threaded sleeve before tightening the locknut.
  • Torque Limits: Tighten the outer probe sleeve locknut to 39.3 N-m (350 in-lb) and the housing retaining nut to 29.5 N-m (260 in-lb) to maintain physical sealing and mechanical stability.
  • Grounding & Shielding: Connect field wiring shields directly inside the PPS housing lid using the integrated AISI 304 stainless steel grounding liner and retaining plate.
  • Moisture Management: Ensure all unused conduit entry holes in the plastic housing are sealed with the two supplied blanking plugs. Route incoming conduit downward to prevent moisture and condensation from draining directly into the housing.

Compliance and Certifications

  • CE Mark: Compliant with the European CE Mark directives.
  • Ingress Protection: IP66 housing rating verified under BASEEFA standards.
  • Intrinsically Safe (EPL Ga/Gc/Dc): Ex ia IIC T4/T5 Ga; Ex ia IIIC T90C/T105C Dc; Class I, Zone 0: AEx/Ex ia IIC T4/T5 Ga; Class I, Groups A, B, C, D; Class II, Groups E, F, G; Class III.
