Description

Bently Nevada 330881-28-04-045-03-02 is a metric-configured integrated PROXPAC XL Proximity Transducer assembly. It is specified with a 3300 XL 8 mm probe with multiple hazardous area approvals, a 40 mm standoff adapter, and a 45 mm probe penetration. This exact configuration also includes one M20 conduit fitting with two plugs and a 3/4-14 NPT mounting thread. Unlike standard proximity systems that require a separate sensor and interconnecting cable, this integrated assembly houses its own 3300 XL Proximitor sensor directly inside the housing lid. This design eliminates the extension cable entirely and allows field wiring to connect directly between the machinery monitor and the PROXPAC housing.

The housing is constructed from advanced, molded glass-reinforced polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) thermoplastic with conductive fibers that enhance mechanical strength and dissipate electrostatic charges. Providing IP66 and Type 4X environmental protection, this assembly represents a robust solution for extreme industrial areas. It seals differential pressure between the probe tip and the main housing body via a Viton O-ring in the probe case and a Neoprene O-ring on the sleeve. This design simplifies installation, minimizes the physical space required on the machine case, and removes the need for separate external Proximitor enclosures.

Features

  • Integrated Design: Combines a 3300 XL 8 mm proximity probe and a Proximitor sensor inside a single protective housing, eliminating the standard extension cable.
  • Multiple Approvals (Option 28): Certified with ATEX, IECEx, and CSA ratings for installation in hazardous, intrinsically safe, or non-incendive environments.
  • Engineered Thermoplastic Housing: Molded PPS thermoplastic housing with conductive fibers resists corrosion and safely dissipates electrostatic build-up.
  • Adjustable Probe Sleeve: Threaded metric sleeve design permits +/-12.7 mm of axial adjustment for precise probe gapping on the shaft.
  • Excellent Seals: High-performance Viton and Neoprene O-ring seals provide robust containment, certified for Type 4X and IP66 environmental standards.

Applications

  • Shaft radial vibration and axial position measurements on high-speed rotating machinery.
  • Aggressive industrial environments requiring physical and environmental protection of delicate sensor connections.
  • Direct machine casing mounting on turbines, compressors, pumps, and gearboxes where physical space for separate Proximitor housings is limited.

Connections and Interfaces

Interface Feature Specification Details
Field Wiring Terminals Direct connection terminal strip inside the housing, accepting wire sizes from 0.2 to 1.5 mm2 (16 to 24 AWG)
Recommended Wire Type 3-conductor shielded triaxial cable with tinned field wiring and drain wire
Maximum Wire Length Up to 305 meters (1000 feet) of field wiring between the PROXPAC XL and the machinery monitor
Conduit Entry M20 conduit fitting (Option 03) to accept standard field conduit or cable glands

Installation Guidelines

  • Gap Setting: Loosen the locknuts and rotate the threaded metric sleeve to adjust probe penetration. The design allows up to +/-12.7 mm (+/-0.5 in) of total axial movement from the center position.
  • Moisture Prevention: To preserve the IP66/Type 4X seal, route conduit downwards to prevent water accumulation. Ensure all conduit fittings and the housing cover are securely tightened.
  • Housing Grounding: Connect the internal grounding liner to the local machine case ground using appropriate ground straps.
  • Sleeve Support: If the combined length of the standoff adapter (B) and penetration depth (C) exceeds 305 mm, install an external sleeve support near the probe tip to prevent vibration resonance.

Compliance and Certifications

  • EMC Standards: EN 61000-6-2 (Immunity for Industrial Environments), EN 61000-6-4 (Emissions) under Directive 2014/30/EU.
  • RoHS: Complies with European Community Directive 2011/65/EU.
  • ATEX/IECEx (Intrinsically Safe ia): Ex ia IIC T5...T1 Ga; Ex ia IIIC T90C...T280C Dc.
  • ATEX/IECEx (Non-Sparking nA/ec): Ex nA IIC T5...T1 Gc; Ex ec IIC T5...T1 Gc.
