The 3500/04-01-00 earthing module is explicitly required for 3500 racks configured with internal intrinsic safety barriers. Racks utilizing standard external barriers or non-barrier monitors do not require this module. Ensure the rack chassis ground is compatible with your plant instrument ground network before installation.
A common field failure involves connecting the earthing module to a noisy electrical safety ground (dirty ground) instead of a dedicated high-integrity instrument earth (clean ground). Grounding loop currents can induce significant high-frequency noise on vibration signal paths, causing false machine trips or instrumentation faults. Keep safety ground connections completely isolated from structural mains ground.
During initial commissioning, verify that the earthing resistance between the 3500/04 module chassis terminal and the main instrument earth busbar is less than 1.0 Ohm. Regularly inspect the front panel mechanical screws to ensure they remain torqued to OEM specifications, as loose hardware directly degrades the low-impedance path required for intrinsic safety protection.
