Description

The EL5002 EtherCAT Terminal facilitates the direct connection of up to two SSI (Synchronous Serial Interface) sensors to the industrial control network. Engineered for precise path and positioning feedback systems, this terminal transfers absolute position data directly into the process image of the controller. Communication between the controller and the sensor is established using differential RS422 signals, ensuring robust signal transmission in electromagnetically noisy environments.

Operating as a read-only master interface, the EL5002 supports highly configurable communication parameters, including variable baud rates up to 1 MHz and adjustable data frame lengths up to 32 bits. The terminal features integrated support for Distributed Clocks (DC), enabling high-precision, synchronized acquisition of sensor readings across the entire EtherCAT segment. With its compact 12 mm design, it integrates into standard EtherCAT DIN-rail terminal blocks, drawing power directly from the E-bus and external power contacts.

Installation Guidelines

• Mounting: Mount horizontally or vertically on a standard 35 mm DIN rail (conforming to EN 60715) using the integrated locking mechanism.
• Wiring: Use solid, stranded, or ferruled copper conductors with cross-sections from AWG 28 to AWG 14 (solid/stranded) or AWG 26 to AWG 16 (ferrule). Wire stripping length must be 8 to 9 mm.
• Shielding: Maintain proper electromagnetic shielding by grounding the encoder cable shield directly at the cabinet entry point or using dedicated shielding terminals.
• Thermal Management: Keep ventilation paths clear to ensure adequate cooling and prevent the ambient temperature from exceeding 60 degC.
