The ABB INLIM03, a component of the Bailey Infi 90 system, is a specialized Loop Interface Module designed to manage critical data routing and transmission between individual process control equipment and the primary communication backbone. Operating in tandem with an accompanying Bus Interface Module (INBIM02) via a dedicated ribbon cable link, this device handles complex multi-node orchestration tasks without relying on a centralized master traffic controller. By serving as a localized gateway, the module helps isolate high-throughput automated adjustments from macro-level loop congestion.

Applications

  • Process Control Units (PCU) communication bridging
  • High-speed serial data transmission within industrial Plant Loops
  • Redundant network topology orchestration in process management setups
  • Distributed multi-node process architecture data routing

Installation Guidelines

  • Static Dissipative Measures: Technicians must utilize grounded wrist straps and appropriate static dissipative work surfaces prior to handling to safeguard internal circuitry from electrostatic discharge.
  • Dipswitch Configurations: Set the S1 option dipswitch to the desired event tracking address (default position: Hex 30) and configure the S2 address dipswitch to establish a unique node designation from 1 to 63.
  • Module Interconnection: Securely connect the ribbon cable between the P4 slot of the device and the corresponding P4 slot of the partner module before inserting the joined assembly into the frame.
  • Physical Slot Mount: Slide the unit directly along the plastic guide rails within the designated Module Mounting Unit (MMU) slot until the front faceplate rests flush with the upper and lower framing edges.
  • Faceplate Locking: Hand-tighten the dual captive faceplate screws by rotating each a 1/2 turn to lock the hardware firmly into position within the chassis card cage.
  • Cable Orientation Warning: When completing termination paths using the dedicated cabling assembly, confirm that the designated J1 cable ending attaches to the terminal card edge (P1 connector) and the J2 ending seats properly directly onto the device module. Incorrect configuration can cause immediate electrical damage.

Compliance and Certifications

  • CSA certified for use as process control equipment in ordinary, non-hazardous environments.

Technical Datasheet

ABB INLIM03 Bailey Infi 90 Loop Interface Module

What is the primary function of the module within the system?

The module serves as the primary communication interface between the Process Control Units (PCU) and the high-speed serial Plant Loop communication highway.

What data rates does the communication interface support?

The communication network operates at a rate of 500 kbaud, handling a maximum transmission capacity of up to 800 messages per second.

Can the module be inserted or removed while the rack is energized?

Yes. The device can be inserted or removed under live power conditions, as there are no hazardous voltage levels present on the module interface.

How are hardware events and transmission metrics monitored on the module?

The device contains internal event and error counters whose specific cumulative byte-wide values can be output directly onto the front faceplate LEDs by setting the S1 option dipswitch to the target hexadecimal counter address.
