Product Description

Description

ABB REB670 is a busbar protection intelligent electronic device (IED) designed for the protection, control, and monitoring of busbars, T-connections, and meshed corners from medium to extra high voltage levels. This busbar protection IED provides selective, reliable, and fast fault clearance for all types of internal phase-to-phase and phase-to-earth faults in solidly earthed or low-impedance earthed power systems. It is also capable of handling internal multi-phase faults in isolated or high-impedance earthed power systems. Belonging to the Relion protection and control product family, the ABB REB670 implements the core design requirements of the IEC 61850 standard to deliver fully interoperable and future-proof substation automation applications.

Features

  • Extensive input/output capability supporting single, double, and triple busbar layouts with or without transfer bus arrangements.
  • Phase segregated measurement providing selective protection for complex substation layouts.
  • Integrated software-based dynamic Zone Selection for seamless adaptation to shifting substation topologies, such as one-and-a-half breaker stations, double breaker stations, and ring busbars.
  • Integrated check zone feature independent of disconnector positions to secure differential protection stability during improper status indications.
  • Efficient merging of differential zones during load-transfer conditions initiated by bus-sectionalizing disconnectors.
  • Built-in open CT detection and differential protection supervision to prevent unwanted operations during secondary circuit failures.
  • Advanced backup protection capabilities, including breaker failure protection, end fault protection, and overcurrent protection options.
  • Extensive protocol support covering IEC 61850-8-1, IEC 61850-9-2LE process bus, IEC 60870-5-103, DNP3.0, LON, and SPA protocols.

Applications

  • Single, double, and triple busbar configurations with or without transfer bus, double-circuit breaker, or one-and-a-half circuit breaker arrangements.
  • Substations requiring up to six differential zones and twenty-four analog current inputs.
  • High-voltage and extra-high-voltage utility and industrial substations utilizing isolated, high-impedance, low-impedance, or solidly earthed power networks.
  • Complex substation layouts utilizing dynamic zone selection, requiring large counts of binary and analog inputs/outputs.
  • Process-bus environments operating with sampled values according to the IEC 61850-9-2LE standard.

Installation Guidelines

  • Grounding: Secure the IED case to the station earth using a low-impedance copper wire before making any electrical connections.
  • Shielding: Employ twisted-pair shielded cables for all binary signal lines and communication networks to reduce the effects of EMI/RFI noise.
  • Mounting: Install the unit into standard 19-inch racks or panel cutouts using the certified ABB mounting kit accessories.
  • Cooling and Ventilation: Maintain adequate clearance around the top and bottom of the enclosure to promote natural convection and prevent heat accumulation.
  • Cable Routing: Maintain clean separation between heavy-current primary cables, analog secondary transformer connections, and low-voltage digital signal wiring.
  • Polarity: Verify correctness of all auxiliary DC voltage wiring connections before energizing the IED power supply module.
