Processing 16 independent channels of analog inputs, the ABB SPASI23 interfaces high-density sensor arrays directly into the Symphony Plus control architecture. This Analog Input Module supports mixed signal types including thermocouples (TC), millivolt (mV) inputs, resistance temperature detectors (RTD), and high-level signals, providing a single-slot high-resolution digitization platform for critical process parameters. Engineered for the Harmony Rack (HR) Series I/O framework, it ensures real-time signal conditioning and accurate data ingestion for demanding process loops.

Features

  • 16 Isolated Channels: High-density input processing capability within a single slot.
  • Universal Signal Handling: Direct connectivity to TC, mV, RTD, and high-level industrial signals.
  • Symphony Plus Architecture: Native bus coupling for deterministic communication with Harmony Rack controllers.
  • Zero Battery Architecture: Solid-state configuration requiring 0 internal batteries for retention.

Applications

  • Thermal monitoring of boiler systems and steam turbine bearings using direct TC/RTD inputs.
  • High-density low-voltage sensor processing in petrochemical and oil refining units.
  • Multi-channel analog telemetry integration in heavy industrial power generation.

Installation Guidelines

CRITICAL WARNING

Isolate all active high-level and field sensor loops before inserting or removing the module. Hot-swapping without verified background rack bus stabilization can cause transient signal spikes across adjoining channels. Grounding continuity must be confirmed via the Harmony Rack frame prior to energization.

1

Inspect the Harmony Rack slot for alignment debris and verify the backplane connector pins are completely straight.

2

Slide the card evenly along the top and bottom chassis guides until the edge connector is firmly seated into the backplane.

3

Secure the faceplate retaining fasteners to ground the front panel and establish thermal bonding with the enclosure frame.

Can mixed signal types be wired to a single module simultaneously?

Yes. The module hardware supports internal conditioning for Thermocouple, millivolt, RTD, and high-level inputs, though software channel grouping configurations must match specific termination unit mappings.

Does this module require an external backup battery for calibration data storage?

No. The hardware profile confirms 0 batteries are required, utilizing non-volatile solid-state memory for retention of channel calibration and identification constants.

What chassis system does this module interface with?

It is designed strictly for the Symphony Plus HR Series (Harmony Rack) I/O framework, locking directly into standard Harmony architecture backplanes.
