Description

Engineered as a robust hardware expansion, the Beckhoff C9900-E781 push-button extension provides direct tactile operator controls for CP6xxx and CP7xxx Series Control Panels and Panel PCs. This module is specifically optimized for integration below 15-inch displays without integrated keyboards, enhancing operator interface efficiency in demanding industrial environments.

The unit features 16 square push-button keys equipped with individual signal lamps, allowing clear status feedback for machine functions. For safety-critical operations, a dedicated emergency stop key is integrated directly into the faceplate. Communication and control of the push-buttons and indicator lights are managed over a high-speed USB interface, while auxiliary terminal rows allow for direct hardwiring of critical signals to ensure system-wide redundancy and safety compliance.

Features

  • Tactile Control Elements: Equipped with 16 square push-button keys (30 x 30 mm, Siemens Signum type) featuring integrated signal lamps and customizable insert labels for individual marking.
  • Integrated Safety: Features a single, highly visible Siemens Signum emergency stop key designed for direct external wiring.
  • Dual Connection Path: All 16 push-buttons are transmitted over USB via a normally-open (NO) contact, and also feature a second NO contact routed directly to an integrated terminal row for optional hardwired control.
  • USB Control: Indicator lamps and the onboard Gray code switch are controlled exclusively via the USB interface.
  • Onboard Selection Switch: Includes one 23-position Gray code switch for machine mode selection or parameter adjustment.
  • External Connectivity: Front-mounted 2-port USB Type-A interface sealed with an IP65 screw cap for direct maintenance access.

Applications

  • CNC machine tools and machining centers
  • Automated assembly and production lines
  • Heavy industrial control workstations using Beckhoff CP6xxx and CP7xxx panels
  • Process control systems requiring physical emergency stops and mode selectors

Connections and Interfaces

Interface Type Function and Configuration
Internal USB Connection Transmits first NO contact of 16 push-buttons, Gray code switch state, and drives all indicator lamps.
Terminal Block Row Provides direct hardwired access to the second NO contact of each of the 16 push-buttons.
Emergency Stop Terminals Dedicated terminals for hardwiring safety relays or fail-safe PLC inputs.
Front USB Ports Dual-port pass-through USB A connection protected by an IP65 screw cap.

Installation Guidelines

  • Mechanical Mounting: Secure the push-button extension directly to the bottom of the compatible 15-inch Beckhoff Control Panel using the standard mounting brackets and screws. Ensure gaskets are seated properly to maintain the rated ingress protection.
  • Grounding: Connect the functional earth terminal of the push-button housing directly to the central low-impedance grounding point of the control cabinet.
  • Wiring Safety: Route the emergency stop wiring separate from high-voltage AC cables to minimize electromagnetic interference. Direct-wire the E-stop to an approved safety evaluation relay or safety PLC input.
  • USB Cable Routing: Ensure the internal USB control cable is routed without sharp bends and away from moving components or heat sources.

Which control panels are compatible with the C9900-E781?

The C9900-E781 push-button extension is designed for Beckhoff CP6xxx and CP7xxx Control Panels and Panel PCs with a 15-inch display without keyboard, including models CP6942, CP7942, CP6242, CP6442, CP6542, and CP7242.

How are the control signals transmitted to the PLC?

All 16 push-buttons transmit their status via USB using one normally-open (NO) contact. Additionally, all push-buttons are directly wireable with a second NO contact via an integrated terminal row for hardwired PLC control or physical safety circuits.

How are the indicator lights and selector switch controlled?

The integrated signal lamps on the push-buttons and the 23-position Gray code selector switch are controlled exclusively via the USB interface connected to the host PC.

What is the physical protection rating of the front USB ports?

The two front-facing USB Type-A ports are protected by an IP65 rated screw-cap cover when closed, protecting them against water jets and dust ingress.
