Product Description

Description

The BECKHOFF KS3356 is a high-precision, 1-channel analog input Bus Terminal designed for the direct connection of resistor bridges, such as strain gauge sensors. Operating within the standard K-bus system, this terminal allows for direct calculation and calibration of bridge supply and measurement voltages to deliver accurate force, pressure, or weight measurements.

A defining characteristic of the BECKHOFF KS3356 is its pluggable wiring level. Part of the KS series, it features a removable terminal block that enables swift hardware replacement during servicing or maintenance without requiring individual control wires to be disconnected and re-terminated. This architecture minimizes downtime and reduces the risk of wiring errors.

To ensure long-term stability and high measurement accuracy, the terminal incorporates self-calibration circuitry that compensates for environmental drift and temperature variations. It is highly suited for integration with standard PLC systems, providing highly accurate industrial weighing and force-sensing capabilities.

Features

  • Direct input for one resistor bridge (strain gauge) with up to 16-bit resolution.
  • Removable pluggable wiring level for simplified installation, maintenance, and field replacement.
  • Self-calibration function that automatically compensates for drift and temperature-related measurement errors.
  • Configurable software filters and conversion times to adapt to application-specific dynamics.
  • Compact 12 mm housing width to conserve DIN rail space within the control cabinet.
  • Internal power supply via the K-bus, with field-side distribution via the power contacts.

Applications

  • Industrial weighing platforms, hopper scales, and vessel weight monitoring.
  • Tensile, force, and torque measurements in test stands and assembly equipment.
  • Tension control systems in continuous web handling, printing, and packaging machinery.
  • Material testing machines requiring precise strain and force feedback.

Installation Guidelines

  1. Ensure all system power supplies (K-bus and field power contacts) are completely de-energized before mounting, removing, or wiring the terminal.
  2. Snap the terminal securely onto a standard 35 mm DIN rail (EN 60715). Verify that the side-by-side connection lock-and-groove system aligns with adjacent terminals.
  3. Verify that the pluggable terminal block is firmly seated and latched into the terminal housing body.
  4. Strip field wiring to a length of 9 to 10 mm. Actuate the tension clamp points using an appropriate screwdriver and insert the conductors.
  5. To optimize signal stability and accuracy when measuring low-amplitude millivolt strain-gauge signals, use shielded, twisted-pair cabling and terminate the shield at a dedicated grounding point near the terminal.
  6. During replacement or maintenance, the pluggable block may be pulled from the terminal body to swap the module without disconnecting any field wiring.
