Description

Option 28 (3300 XL 8 mm probe with Multiple Approvals), Option 00 (no standoff adapter), and Option 145 (145 mm penetration length) specify this metric Bently Nevada 330881-28-00-145-00-02 PROXPAC XL Proximity Transducer configuration.

This self-contained transducer assembly integrates the proximity probe and the Proximitor sensor into a single, compact housing. This design eliminates the need for intermediate extension cables and external Proximitor housings, allowing field wiring to connect directly from the machinery monitors to the terminal block inside the housing lid. By housing both elements in glass-reinforced, UV-resistant Polyphenylene Sulfide (PPS) thermoplastic, the system provides physical protection and electrostatic dissipation in severe industrial environments.

Features

  • Integrated 3300 XL 8 mm proximity probe and Proximitor sensor housed in a single Polyphenylene Sulfide (PPS) thermoplastic assembly.
  • Option 28 probe and approvals configuration including standard multiple hazardous area certifications.
  • 145 mm metric probe penetration length with no standoff adapter (Option 00).
  • Option 02 mounting thread with 3/4-14 NPT outer sleeve threads.
  • IP66 and Type 4X rated housing constructed of conductive, glass-reinforced PPS to dissipate electrostatic charges.
  • Direct field-terminal connections eliminating the need for intermediate extension cables.

Applications

  • Radial vibration monitoring on large rotating machinery shafts.
  • Axial thrust position measurements in steam turbines, gas turbines, and compressors.
  • Machinery protection in severe environments requiring IP66 or Type 4X housing protection.
  • High-exposure areas where electrostatic discharge or chemical resistance is required.

Installation Guidelines

Ensure that the outer sleeve is properly torqued into the machinery casing. The recommended torque for the probe sleeve locknut is 39.3 N-m (350 in-lb). The retaining nut should be torqued to 29.5 N-m (260 in-lb). When deploying in hazardous locations, verify local grounding requirements; the conductive fibers in the PPS housing must be correctly integrated with the local safety grounding system. Field terminal wires must be connected securely using terminal screws inside the lid, minimizing exposed conductors.

Compliance and Certifications

The integrated probe and Proximitor components comply with standard international electrical and industrial regulations. Key certifications include ATEX/IECEx hazardous area approvals (Ex ia IIC T4/T5 Ga, Ex nA IIC T4/T5 Gc, Ex ec IIC T4/T5 Gc), CSA Class I, Zone 0, AEx/Ex ia IIC T4/T5 Ga, and European CE marking for Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC Directive 2014/30/EU, EN 61000-6-2, EN 61000-6-4) and RoHS (Directive 2011/65/EU).
