Description

The Emerson VIM-4201 is a Virtual I/O Module network gateway designed to provide a native DeltaV I/O interface to open plant Ethernet networks and devices. This module enables DeltaV Controllers to read and write signals from plant floor devices operating on Ethernet networks, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs), Motor Control Centers, and weigh scales. The VIM-4201 is specifically designed for redundant installations, allowing two modules to be set up as a redundant pair to provide backup plant network capabilities. It emulates DeltaV Serial Cards, allowing seamless integration where the DeltaV Controller auto-senses the gateway directly within the DeltaV system architecture.

Features

  • Emulates up to 4 DeltaV Serial Cards and supports up to 128 Serial Card Datasets.
  • Provides automated integration with the DeltaV auto-sense I/O function.
  • Supports 1:1 module redundancy with automatic or manual switchover capabilities managed via DeltaV Diagnostics.
  • Equipped with a standard 10BaseT 8-pin RJ-45 connector for external plant Ethernet interface.
  • Features an intuitive setup interface through the VIMNet Explorer Utility with graphical drag-and-drop network configuration.

Applications

  • Redundant network gateway mirroring for open plant Ethernet networks.
  • Interfacing DeltaV Controllers with plant floor PLCs.
  • Motor Control Center status monitoring and control data routing.
  • Process weigh scale integration over Modbus TCP/IP or EtherNet/IP protocols.

Installation Guidelines

  • Mounting Location: Install the module on its own 2-wide carrier to the left-hand-side of the DeltaV controller.
  • Power Provision: Ensure each module is supported by a dedicated system power supply connected via the carrier side connector.
  • Network Wiring: Establish communication connections to the plant Ethernet network using the integrated RJ-45 Ethernet port on the module face.
  • Redundant Configuration: Wire the primary and standby modules such that they can monitor each other continuously with status commands across the common Ethernet Network.
