Description
The GE Fanuc IC695CPU310 is a Programmable Automation Controller (PAC) central processing unit used as the central processing unit in PACSystems RX3i systems. Powered by a 300 MHz processor, this unit functions as the primary control node within the PACSystems RX3i automation platform. It provides advanced processing speed, execution times as fast as 0.195 ms per 1000 Boolean instructions, and flexible program execution.
Featuring a dual backplane architecture, the IC695CPU310 module supports both high-speed PCI backplane communications for fast throughput of advanced RX3i I/O and standard serial backplane channels. This dual structure facilitates legacy system migration, enabling compatibility with existing Series 90-30 I/O modules and expansion racks. Program and configuration data are stored in 10 Megabytes of battery-backed CMOS RAM, supplemented by 10 Megabytes of embedded non-volatile flash memory.
The CPU features integrated communication options, including two on-board serial interfaces supporting Modbus RTU Slave, SNP Slave, and Serial I/O protocols. For networked control systems, it integrates with rack-based Ethernet modules, enabling Ethernet Global Data (EGD) exchange and SNTP time synchronization. System firmware is upgradeable in-system via the primary serial port using flash storage.

Configuration and Commissioning
Software Configuration: Use Proficy Machine Edition Logic Developer-PLC to build and transfer system configuration and user logic.
Mode Switch Control: Use the front panel three-position switch to select the operating state: RUN I/O ENABLED, RUN OUTPUT DISABLE, or STOP. Operating mode can also be controlled remotely via programming software.
Parameter & Program Storage: Always ensure that hardware configuration and user logic are written to RAM prior to performing a write to non-volatile flash memory to guarantee proper power-up sequence from flash.
Firmware Flashing: Connect the programming PC to the CPU RS-232 serial port (COM1) running the WinLoader utility. Ensure the CPU is set to STOP mode with I/O disabled during direct firmware upgrades.
FAQ
Does the IC695CPU310 support legacy Series 90-30 I/O modules?
Yes, the processor features a dual backplane architecture that includes a standard serial backplane channel, allowing direct integration and migration of existing Series 90-30 I/O modules and expansion racks.
How much user memory is integrated into the IC695CPU310?
The module includes 10 Megabytes of battery-backed CMOS RAM for user programs and register data, along with 10 Megabytes of built-in non-volatile flash memory for long-term storage.
What programming software is required for the IC695CPU310?
The controller is programmed and configured using Proficy Machine Edition Logic Developer-PLC (version 5.0 or later depending on firmware release). It supports Ladder Diagram, Structured Text, Function Block Diagram, and C language.
What is the proper procedure for connecting the battery on a new module?
The lithium battery pack should be plugged into the CPU battery terminal after main rack power has been turned on. Connecting a battery for the first time while power is off can prevent the unit from powering up correctly.
Does the CPU have embedded Ethernet capability?
The CPU module itself features two serial communication ports (RS-232 and RS-485). Ethernet communications, including Ethernet Global Data (EGD) and SNTP time synchronization, are supported by adding an IC695ETM001 rack-based Ethernet interface module.
