Description
Providing steady backplane power distribution, the Honeywell 900P01-0001 serves as the primary AC power supply module for the HC900 Process & Safety Controller system. This module converts incoming line voltage to the regulated DC levels required by the rack backplane to support CPU, scanner, and input/output modules. Engineered for high-availability industrial automation environments, it features robust transient protection, internal fusing, and a high-reliability hardware architecture that ensures uninterrupted operation under demanding thermal and electrical conditions.
Features
- Auto-sensing universal AC input voltage range eliminates manual jumper configurations.
- Delivers clean, regulated 5 VDC and 24 VDC rails directly to the HC900 backplane.
- Integral diagnostic monitoring relays status information directly to the controller CPU.
- Convection-cooled design eliminates moving mechanical parts, increasing mean time between failures (MTBF).
- Secure mechanical locking mechanism guarantees continuous electrical connection even in high-vibration applications.
Applications
- Thermal processing control systems including industrial kilns, ovens, and environmental chambers.
- Water and wastewater municipal treatment plant automation.
- Boiler combustion control systems and burner management systems (BMS).
- Chemical and petrochemical batch processing installations.

Alternative Models & Compatibility
The 900P01-0001 is intended for non-redundant power configurations on HC900 racks. If your application mandates a redundant power configuration to eliminate single points of failure, you must utilize the 900P02-0001 Redundant Power Supply module along with the appropriate redundant backplane and power status module. These models are not interchangeable in terms of backplane slot spacing.
Application Pitfalls & Engineering Notes
A common issue in sealed field enclosures is thermal stagnation. While the 900P01-0001 operates reliably up to 60 degC, prolonged exposure to high ambient temperatures accelerates the degradation of internal electrolytic capacitors. This degradation can lead to voltage ripple on the 5 VDC backplane rail, resulting in unexplained controller resets. Always maintain at least 50 mm of vertical clearance above and below the module rack to allow natural convective airflow.
Commissioning & Wiring Tips
For critical control tasks, feed the AC input of the power supply from an isolation transformer or a dedicated UPS system. Sharing an AC line with large inductive loads like induction motors or magnetic contactors can induce high-energy spikes. Additionally, ensure the Protective Earth (PE) ground wire is connected directly to a low-impedance copper busbar; poor grounding degrades the internal EMI filter's efficacy and can introduce high-frequency noise into sensitive analog I/O modules on the same rack.
Installation Guidelines
CRITICAL WARNING: Hazardous voltages are present on the input terminals of this module. Disconnect, lock out, and tag out the primary AC power distribution circuit before attempting to install, wire, or remove the power supply module. Wait at least two minutes for internal filter capacitors to discharge fully before touching terminal connections.
1
Confirm that the rack chassis is securely mounted and grounded to the enclosure backplate.
2
Align the 900P01-0001 module with the dedicated leftmost power slot on the HC900 rack. Slide the unit inward until the backplane connectors seat completely.
3
Tighten the upper and lower module retaining screws to prevent accidental disconnects and to secure the module ground path.
4
Strip 14 AWG to 18 AWG copper wire to the manufacturer recommended length and connect the PE (Ground), Neutral, and Line conductors to their respective screw terminals.
5
Verify all wire connections are tight, close the protective terminal cover, and re-energize the source AC circuit to test.
