The Honeywell TK-ORC161 is a conformal-coated, 16-point isolated discrete relay output module designed for the Experion Chassis Series-A (CIOM-A) I/O platform. The device operates within Experion LS systems in conjunction with C200E/C200 control processors over the I/O ControlNet network. Featuring 16 individually isolated Normally Open (N.O.) relay contacts, the module provides high-density discrete output switching capabilities for a wide variety of field devices, loads, and industrial control applications.

Features

  • Conformal Coating: Includes factory-applied conformal coating (TK series) for enhanced corrosion protection in harsh industrial environments (ANSI/ISA-S71.04-1985 Moderate G2 or Harsh G3 classification).
  • High-Density Channel Count: Equipped with 16 N.O. relay contact output channels in a single-wide chassis slot form factor.
  • Individual Galvanic Isolation: Provides point-to-point channel isolation (16 N.O. contacts individually isolated) to ensure electrical independence and signal integrity across field circuits.
  • Versatile Switching Capacities: Handles switching voltages from 10 to 265 VAC (47-63 Hz) and 5 to 150 VDC.
  • Configurable Channel States: Features user-configurable Fault States and Program Mode states per point (Hold Last State, ON, or OFF; default is OFF).
  • Hot-Swappable: Supports Removal and Insertion Under Power (RIUP) in non-hazardous/ordinary locations.

Applications

  • Motor starter control circuits
  • Solenoid valve actuation
  • Annunciator panels and alarm indication outputs
  • High-voltage interlock and isolation switching
  • Interfacing field actuators with C200E/C200 Control Processors in process control systems

Installation Guidelines

  • Chassis Slot Placement: The module occupies a single-wide slot within any position of an Experion Series-A chassis.
  • Terminal Wiring: Connect field wiring directly using the TC-TBCH 36-pin terminal block or via pre-wired cable assembly connected to a Remote Terminal Panel (RTP).
  • Fusing Protection: Outputs are not internally fused; use a fused RTP (e.g., Allen-Bradley 1492 interface system) to protect module output circuits against overcurrent conditions.
  • Removal and Insertion Under Power (RIUP): Permitted in ordinary, non-hazardous locations. RIUP is strictly NOT PERMITTED when installed in Class I, Division 2 hazardous locations.
  • Enclosure Requirements: Maintain compliance with ambient environment criteria (0 to 60 degC operative temperature limits) inside an industrial enclosure.

Compliance and Certifications

  • UL: UL 508 Industrial Control Equipment
  • Hazardous Locations: Class I, Div 2, Groups A, B, C & D Hazardous and Ordinary locations
  • EMC Directive: 89/336/EEC, EN 50081-2 Emissions, EN 50082-2 Immunity
  • C-Tick: Meets requirements of the Australian Radiocommunications Act of 1992

Honeywell TK-ORC161 97180373 Chassis Series-A Isolated Discrete Relay Module

What terminal block model is used with this relay module?

The module uses the TC-TBCH 36-position removable terminal block for direct field wiring connections.

Does the device support removal and insertion under power?

Removal and Insertion Under Power (RIUP) is permitted in ordinary, non-hazardous locations. It is not permitted when the device is installed in Class I, Division 2 hazardous locations.

Are the output contacts on the device protected by internal fuses?

The outputs are not internally protected. Using a fused Remote Terminal Panel (RTP) is recommended to protect the output circuits.

What is the difference between model numbers starting with TC and TK?

Model numbers starting with TK designate that the module has conformal coating applied for corrosion protection, whereas TC models do not have conformal coating.
