Alternative Models & Compatibility
The MR-J4-20B functions as a direct drop-in replacement for legacy MR-J3-20B amplifiers. While it contains J3 compatibility modes, parameters must be initialized and downloaded via MR Configurator2 to map features over legacy network structures correctly. Be aware that running in J3 mode disables certain MR-J4 diagnostics, such as the high-resolution encoder response profiles.
Application Pitfalls & Engineering Notes
Operating the unit under a single-phase AC input increases current load on the internal rectifier bridge. Ensure the control and input line sizing matches single-phase specifications, and avoid driving the motor at continuous peak rated torque to mitigate heat accumulation in the rectifier circuit. Keep side clearances to at least 10 mm when multiple units are side-mounted to prevent thermal overload faults (AL.46).
Commissioning & Wiring Tips
Ensure optical fiber cables connected to CN1A/CN1B maintain a bending radius greater than 25 mm. Sharp bends cause signal degradation, resulting in random communication timeouts and AL.37 errors. Additionally, if the Safe Torque Off (STO) function is not integrated into a safety system, the short-circuit connector must remain firmly plugged into the CN8 port to allow normal amplifier operations.
Installation Guidelines
CRITICAL WARNING:
Before performing any installation, wiring, or maintenance on this amplifier, ensure that the main power supply is completely disconnected. Wait at least 15 minutes after power-down for internal capacitors to discharge. Verify that the charge lamp is fully extinguished prior to handling the power terminals.
1
Mount the servo amplifier vertically on a clean, vibration-free backplate inside an IP54 or higher rated control panel.
2
Connect the main power circuit to L1, L2, and L3 (three-phase) or L1 and L2 (single-phase), and the control circuit supply to L11 and L21.
3
Wire the servo motor power lines to U, V, and W terminals. Confirm that the motor frame is grounded to the amplifier's protective earth terminal.
4
Insert the optical network cables into CN1A/CN1B, verifying a secure mechanical click lock, and plug in the encoder connector to CN2.
