The 5069-RTB64-SCREW is a high-density, 64-pin removable terminal block (RTB) designed specifically for the Compact 5000 I/O platform. This accessory is required for high-point-count modules, such as the 32-point digital input or output modules (e.g., 5069-IB32 or 5069-OB32), where standard 18-pin blocks do not provide enough termination points. The "SCREW" version features traditional screw-clamp connections, offering a secure and vibration-resistant interface for complex industrial wiring.

Core Functionalities

1. High-Density Termination

The 5069-RTB64-SCREW is engineered to manage the significant wiring requirements of 32-point modules within a slim 22mm module width. By utilizing a multi-tier screw-clamp arrangement, it allows 64 individual wires (inputs/outputs and commons) to be landed in a very small physical footprint.

2. Support for RIUP

Like all RTBs in the Compact 5000 series, this block supports Removal and Insertion Under Power (RIUP). This allows maintenance teams to replace the electronic I/O module without disturbing the field wiring, significantly reducing downtime and eliminate the risk of cross-wiring during replacement.

3. Mechanical Security

The screw-clamp design is particularly effective in environments subject to constant mechanical vibration. Once tightened to the correct torque, the clamps provide a gas-tight seal that prevents oxidation and intermittent connections over the life of the control system.

Technical FAQs

Can I use this RTB with a standard 16-point module like the 5069-IB16?

No. The 5069-RTB64-SCREW is physically larger and has a different pin alignment than the 18-pin blocks used for 16-point modules. It is strictly for 32-point modules or specialized analog modules designed for 64-pin interfaces.

Does it come with the I/O module?

Generally, no. In the Allen-Bradley Compact 5000 series, Removable Terminal Blocks are sold as separate catalog items. This allows users to choose between SCREW (5069-RTB64-SCREW) or SPRING (5069-RTB64-SPRING) push-in style connectors based on their preference.

How do I manage such a large bundle of wires?

Because 64 wires can be bulky, it is recommended to use the integrated cable tie-down points on the module housing. Using ferrules is also highly recommended to keep the wire ends neat and ensure they fit into the high-density spacing of the RTB.

Engineering & Installation Guide

  • Torque Sensitivity: Because of the high density, the screws on the 64-pin block are smaller than those on the 18-pin blocks. It is critical to use a precision screwdriver and stay within the 0.22–0.25 N·m torque range to avoid stripping the threads.

  • Wiring Sequence: It is best practice to wire the bottom tier first and work your way up to the top tier. This prevents previously landed wires from obstructing access to the lower terminal screws.

  • Keying and Coding: Use the plastic keying tabs provided with the module to ensure the RTB can only be plugged into the correct type of module, preventing potential damage from mismatched voltage levels.

Engineering Advantages

The 5069-RTB64-SCREW is the primary enabler of Space-Optimized I/O. In modern control cabinets where DIN rail space is at a premium, being able to land 32 points of I/O in a single 22mm slot is a major advantage. By using the screw-clamp version, engineers ensure that even these high-density connections remain reliable under the harsh thermal and mechanical conditions of a factory floor or a moving skid.
