Description
Providing channel-to-channel electrical isolation for enhanced noise immunity, the Mitsubishi Electric R60AD8-G is an 8-channel analog input module engineered for integration within the high-performance MELSEC iQ-R control architecture. This module enables the direct and precise acquisition of both voltage and current analog signals, safeguarding system integrity by preventing ground loops and signal cross-talk in electrically hostile industrial environments. With individual channel configuration and embedded signal processing functions, it delivers accurate process telemetry directly to the controller backplane.
Features
-
Channel-to-Channel Isolation: Complete electrical isolation between channels isolates external noise transients and prevents loop interference.
-
Flexible Signal Ranges: Configurable per-channel for standard voltage inputs (-10 to 10 VDC, 0 to 10 VDC, 0 to 5 VDC, 1 to 5 VDC) and current inputs (0 to 20 mA, 4 to 20 mA).
-
High-Density Interface: Packs 8 isolated channels into a single slot, reducing overall backplane footprint requirements.
-
Hardware-Based Processing: Features onboard scaling, digital filtering, and primary logging functions to offload processing cycles from the main PLC CPU.
-
Seamless Software Integration: Fully parameterized through the standard GX Works3 environment without requiring complex ladder-logic initialization codes.
Applications
- Multi-point thermal monitoring utilizing isolated transmitter loops in smelting and glass manufacturing.
- Chemical and petrochemical processes with high ground-potential differences between field transmitters and the control room.
- Industrial wastewater treatment plants with long-distance, noise-prone analog signal lines.
- Variable frequency drive (VFD) speed and torque feedback monitoring systems subject to high electromagnetic interference (EMI).

Empirical Engineering Insights
Alternative Models & Compatibility
When migrating legacy systems from the Q-Series (such as the Q68AD-G), please note that the programming parameters must be entirely reconfigured inside GX Works3. There is no direct parameters import tool for channel-isolated modules due to hardware backplane architecture differences in the iQ-R platform.
Application Pitfalls & Engineering Notes
Keep in mind that while the channels are isolated up to the rated limits, exposing the module to continuous inter-channel voltage differences exceeding 250 VAC/VDC can cause long-term thermal breakdown of the optoelectronic isolation boundaries. Ensure all field-side shielding is connected to a single ground potential to avoid high common-mode voltage buildup.
Commissioning & Wiring Tips
For unused channels on this module, configure them as "Unused" or "Disable" inside the module parameter settings block in GX Works3. Leaving an unused channel enabled without an active signal loop may trigger diagnostic error flags or cause processing cycle times to run slower as the A/D converter continues searching for a valid reference loop.
Installation Guidelines
CRITICAL WARNING:
Always ensure the main rack power supply and all field loop power sources are fully disconnected and locked out before inserting or removing the module. Plugging or unplugging the 40-pin connector under active power can cause internal ASIC degradation or spark hazards in explosive environments.
1
Power down the iQ-R base rack and lock out all auxiliary 24 VDC process loop supplies powering the transmitters.
2
Mount the R60AD8-G module onto the backplane base unit slot, ensuring the module latching projection at the bottom is fully seated before locking the top fixing screw.
3
Securely wire the 40-pin external connector. Terminate the cable shields to the system's functional ground bar to maintain robust shielding performance.
