Product Overview
ICSO 08 R1 (ICSO08R1) is a digital output module for the ABB CS31 distributed I/O system. The module provides 8 electrically isolated relay output channels designed for industrial control applications requiring reliable switching of field devices such as contactors, solenoids, signal lamps, and auxiliary relays.
Each relay output supports up to 2 A switching current and is electrically isolated from the system bus and adjacent channels. The module connects to the CS31 system bus through a plug-in base ECZ and includes integrated diagnostic functions with front-panel LED status indication.
ICSO 08 R1 modules are commonly used in factory automation systems, power plant control panels, water treatment systems, and process automation cabinets where stable relay-based output switching is required.
Technical Configuration
The ICSO 08 R1 combines relay output isolation, diagnostic indication, and CS31 remote I/O communication in a compact DIN rail design.

FAQs
What is the purpose of the ECZ plug-in base?
The ECZ base provides electrical connection, mechanical mounting, and voltage coding protection for the module.
Can ICSO 08 R1 switch inductive loads directly?
Yes. However, ABB recommends external protection components such as free-wheeling diodes for DC loads and varistors for AC inductive loads.
Are the relay outputs electrically isolated?
Yes. Each relay output is electrically isolated from the module logic and from other channels.
What happens if the wrong supply voltage module is installed?
The ECZ mechanical coding system prevents installation with incorrect supply voltage configurations.
Engineering & Installation Guide
When switching inductive DC loads such as relay coils or solenoids, always install a free-wheeling diode across the load terminals. This reduces relay contact arcing and extends relay service life.
Maintain separation between relay output wiring and low-level analog signal cables inside the cabinet. Relay switching transients may introduce electrical noise into instrumentation circuits.
For long-term reliability, verify that the combined output current does not exceed the 16 A total module limit, especially in high-duty-cycle applications.
