Description

Designed for severe industrial environments, the Bently Nevada 330101-00-40-10-11-05 is an 8 mm proximity probe equipped with a fully threaded 4.0-inch case, a patented FluidLoc fluid-barrier cable, a pre-installed connector protector, and comprehensive global hazardous area certifications. As an essential component of the 3300 XL 8 mm Proximity Transducer System, this sensor operates on the eddy-current principle to perform highly accurate, non-contact shaft vibration and displacement measurements on critical rotating machinery. It is fully compatible with standard 3300 XL Proximitor sensors (such as the 330180 series) and standard 3300 XL extension cables, providing complete interchangeability without the need for bench recalibration.

This highly specific variant is characterized by its 0.0-inch unthreaded length (A: 00) and 4.0-inch case length (B: 40) with standard 3/8-24 UNF threads, allowing the probe to be deeply and securely mounted inside machinery casings or bearing housings. It incorporates the advanced Option 11 connector configuration (D: 11), which features a FluidLoc cable designed to block process oil or other lubricating fluids from migrating through the interior of the cable jacket. It also includes an integrated, factory-installed fluorosilicone connector protector that shields the ClickLoc coaxial connection against environmental moisture, vapor, and oil. For deployment in volatile industrial processes, the probe is equipped with Option 05 approvals (E: 05), meeting hazardous area safety certifications including ATEX, IECEx, and CSA.

Features

  • Fully Threaded 4.0-Inch Case: Built with 3/8-24 UNF threads and a 0.0-inch unthreaded length to ensure maximal thread engagement and deep reach inside machine walls.
  • FluidLoc Capillary Seal: Specialized FluidLoc cable prevents process fluids and oil from migrating through the internal pathways of the cable sheath.
  • Pre-Installed Connector Protector: Fluorosilicone protector isolates the gold-plated miniature coaxial ClickLoc connector from moisture, dirt, and corrosive elements.
  • Rugged Tip Construction: Features a durable TipLoc molecular bond between the probe tip and stainless steel case to withstand high temperatures and pressures.
  • High-Strength Coupling: Incorporates CableLoc molding which provides up to 330 N (75 lbf) of pull strength to secure the cable to the probe tip and connector.
  • Global Hazardous Compliance: Pre-certified for hazardous environments under ATEX, IECEx, and CSA frameworks.
  • Backward Compatibility: Fully interchangeable with standard non-XL 3300 series 5 mm and 8 mm system components.

Applications

This specific configuration is optimized for heavy-industry machinery condition monitoring and safety protection, particularly in systems with high fluid containment demands:

  • Steam and Gas Turbines: Radial shaft vibration monitoring and axial thrust position sensing under severe conditions.
  • Centrifugal and Screw Compressors: Precise dynamic displacement measurements in pressurized gas casings.
  • Industrial Gearboxes and Pumps: Reliability and thrust measurement in systems utilizing pressurized oil lubrication.
  • Hazardous Location Machinery: Intrinsically safe vibration monitoring on rotating shafts in explosive chemical or petrochemical environments.

Installation Guidelines

To secure correct operation and avoid mechanical damage, implement the following engineering practices during installation:

  • Thread Engagement Limits: Do not exceed the maximum allowable thread engagement length of 0.563 inches (14.3 mm) to avoid physical binding. Secure the mounting with a Bently Nevada lock nut and safety wire.
  • Calibration Gap Adjustment: Set the initial probe gap relative to the shaft target in accordance with the calibrated linear range of the corresponding 3300 XL Proximitor sensor (typically 2.0 mm or 80 mils).
  • ClickLoc Coupling: ClickLoc coaxial connectors must be tightened finger-tight only. You will feel and hear a physical click when the locking mechanism is engaged. Do not use mechanical pliers on ClickLoc connectors.
  • FluidLoc Cable Integrity: Avoid introducing tight bends or pinching the FluidLoc cable during routing to prevent breaking the internal barriers that seal the jacket against fluid migration.
  • Routing and Shielding: Run probe cables in dedicated, grounded metal conduit or tray systems to isolate the vibration signal from electromagnetic interference.

Compliance and Certifications

This proximity probe is qualified for severe and explosive environments according to the following certifications:

  • Agency Approvals (Option 05): Certified by CSA, ATEX, and IECEx for installation in intrinsically safe and explosive atmospheres (Zone 0, Zone 1, and Division 1/2).
  • CE Mark: Fully compliant with European CE directives for electromagnetic compatibility (RFI/EMI immunity) and environmental standards when used in an integrated 3300 XL system.
  • API Standard 670: When combined with matching extension cables and Proximitor sensors, fully meets the mechanical, linear range, and thermal stability requirements of the American Petroleum Institute Standard 670.

Technical Datasheet

Bently Nevada 330101-00-40-10-11-05 3300 XL 8 mm Proximity Probe

What is the purpose of the FluidLoc cable (Option 11) on this probe?

The patented FluidLoc cable prevents lubricating oil and other process fluids from leaking out of the machine housing by blocking capillary fluid migration through the internal jacket of the cable.

How does the unthreaded length code of 00 affect installation?

The unthreaded length code 00 designates a 0.0-inch unthreaded section, meaning the entire 4.0-inch probe case is threaded. This allows for maximum adjustability and robust thread engagement in tight spaces or thick casing walls.

Which hazardous area certifications does this probe carry?

This probe configuration is equipped with Option 05 certifications, which cover CSA, ATEX, and IECEx safety approvals for reliable operation in explosive and hazardous industrial environments.

Is a separate connector protector required for this probe connection?

No, this probe configuration includes a pre-installed fluorosilicone connector protector. It physically shields the ClickLoc coaxial connector from water, oil, and atmospheric dust without needing separate ordering.
