Description

Option 05 (0.5 inches unthreaded length) and Option 40 (4.0 inches overall case length) specify the physical body dimensions of this 3300 XL 8 mm probe configuration — 330102-05-40-05-02-05. This 3300 XL 8 mm proximity probe features integrated stainless steel armor protection (330102 base model) to shield the transmission lead from harsh operational wear. It is configured with a 0.5-meter (1.6 feet) total probe length (Option 05), terminates in a miniature coaxial ClickLoc connector with a standard cable and no connector protector (Option 02), and includes the Option 05 agency approval package for CSA, ATEX, and IECEx hazardous area certifications.

Unlike standard non-armored models in the same family, this variant includes a flexible stainless steel armor jacket over the FEP coaxial lead. It functions as a non-contacting eddy-current transducer within the wider 3300 XL 8 mm Transducer System, producing a continuous voltage proportional to the distance between the sensor tip and a target shaft. The system is calibrated for a standard AISI 4140 steel target and is interchangeable with corresponding 3300 XL series components without requiring manual field calibration.

Features

  • AISI 302/304 stainless steel protective armor jacket protecting the FEP coaxial transmission cable.
  • 0.5-inch unthreaded case length on a 3/8-24 UNF-2A thread body (Option 05).
  • 4.0-inch overall case length (Option 40) for standard industrial housing mounting.
  • 0.5-meter total probe cable length (Option 05) designed for close-coupling applications.
  • Miniature coaxial ClickLoc connector without an external connector protector (Option 02).
  • Option 05 hazard compliance certified under CSA, ATEX, and IECEx approvals.
  • Viton O-ring differential pressure tip seal.

Applications

This proximity probe is used for heavy-industry machinery protection in power plants, oil and gas platforms, petrochemical refineries, and mining facilities. Common monitoring tasks include:

  • Shaft dynamic vibration measurement inside fluid-film bearings.
  • Axial position and thrust displacement monitoring.
  • Keyphasor phase reference and timing detection.
  • Machinery rotational speed and tachometer measurements.

Installation Guidelines

To establish correct installation and signal performance, follow these guidelines:

  • Verify that the total combined probe and extension cable length equals the required total length of the 3300 XL Proximitor sensor.
  • Ensure at least 8.0 mm of side clearance around the probe tip from surrounding metals to avoid calibration interference.
  • Maintain a minimum cable and armor bend radius of 25.4 mm (1.0 inch) during routing.
  • Tighten the probe case to the recommended torque of 7.5 N-m (66 in-lbf) up to a maximum of 22.6 N-m (200 in-lbf) during standard installation.

Compliance and Certifications

This 330102-05-40-05-02-05 configuration complies with global standards for explosive atmospheres under the Option 05 package:

  • CSA: Safe for Class I, Division 1 and 2 hazard areas.
  • ATEX: Zones 0 and 1 explosive atmosphere protections.
  • IECEx: Certified for international explosive and intrinsically safe environments.
  • CE: Conforms to European Union Low Voltage and EMC Directives.
