Description

Option 28 (3300 XL 8 mm probe with Multiple Approvals) and Option 04 (40 mm standoff adapter length) specify this metric PROXPAC XL Proximity Transducer configuration — 330881-28-04-034-06-02. This integrated assembly functions as a self-contained eddy-current proximity probe system by housing both the 3300 XL 8 mm probe and the 3300 XL Proximitor sensor in a single durable enclosure. It eliminates the need for an external extension cable between the probe and sensor, simplifying field installations by allowing field wiring to connect directly between the machinery monitor and the transducer housing.

This specific variant features a 34 mm probe penetration length (Option 034), one 3/4-14 NPT fitting with a 1-1/2-14 NPT stainless steel reducer (Option 06), and a 3/4-14 NPT mounting thread (Option 02) to accommodate the 40 mm standoff adapter. The housing is molded from glass-reinforced polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) containing conductive fibers to strengthen the body and dissipate electrostatic charges, providing Type 4X and IP66 protection. This configuration includes multiple agency approvals (Option 28) for hazardous area installations.

Features

  • Integrated Probe and Sensor Design: Houses a 1-metre 3300 XL 8 mm probe and Proximitor sensor in one unit, eliminating separate sensor housings and intermediate extension cables.
  • Option 28 Approvals: Includes multiple hazardous area certifications (CSA, ATEX, and IECEx) for intrinsically safe and non-incendive installations.
  • 40 mm Standoff Adapter (Option 04): Includes a metric standoff adapter to adjust mounting depth and clear housing obstructions.
  • 34 mm Penetration Length (Option 034): Provides a precise 34 mm probe penetration depth for exact positioning relative to the target shaft.
  • Advanced PPS Thermoplastic Housing: Molded from glass-reinforced and conductive-fiber-filled polyphenylene sulfide for Type 4X and IP66 environmental sealing.
  • Industrial Conduit Fittings (Option 06): Supplied with one 3/4-14 NPT fitting, one 3/4-14 NPT to 1-1/2-14 NPT stainless steel reducer, and two plugs for rugged field wiring protection.

Applications

The transducer assembly is used in industrial rotating machinery monitoring systems. It measures shaft vibration and axial position on critical assets such as steam turbines, gas turbines, compressors, pumps, and gearboxes. Its integrated design is ideal for locations where space for mounting separate Proximitor housings is limited or where minimizing intermediate cable connections is preferred to improve reliability in severe environments.

Installation Guidelines

  • Ensure that the mounting surface and thread engagement are properly aligned before tightening. The mounting thread for this configuration is 3/4-14 NPT.
  • Tighten the probe sleeve locknut to a recommended torque of 39.3 N-m (350 in-lb).
  • Use recommended field wiring (0.2 to 1.5 mm2 or 16 to 24 AWG, 3-conductor shielded triax or twisted shielded cable with drain wire) to prevent external interference and signal rolloff.
  • Keep field wiring runs below 305 metres (1000 feet) between the transducer housing and the monitor.
  • Ensure that the conduit connections are properly sealed using the supplied 3/4-14 NPT conduit fittings and plugs (Option 06) to maintain the IP66 and Type 4X rating of the housing. Do not allow moisture to enter via the conduit run.

Compliance and Certifications

  • CE Mark (European Community Directive Compliance)
  • EMC Directive 2014/30/EU (EN 61000-6-2, EN 61000-6-4)
  • RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU
  • Type 4X and IP66 Environmental Sealing (BASEEFA verified)
  • Hazardous Area Approvals: CSA, ATEX, and IECEx intrinsically safe (Ex ia IIC T4/T5 Ga, Ex ia IIIC T90C/T105C Dc) and non-incendive / increased safety (Ex nA IIC T4/T5 Gc, Ex ec IIC T4/T5 Gc) when installed per drawings 141092 or 140979.

Bently Nevada 330881-28-04-034-06-02 PROXPAC XL Proximity Transducer

What distinguishes the 330881-28-04-034-06-02 transducer configuration?

This specific configuration is a metric PROXPAC XL assembly featuring a 3300 XL 8 mm probe with multiple hazardous area approvals, a 40 mm standoff adapter, a 34 mm probe penetration length, specialized conduit fittings with a stainless steel reducer, and a 3/4-14 NPT mounting thread.

How does the integrated PROXPAC XL design simplify field installation?

The assembly eliminates the need for a separate extension cable and external Proximitor housing by mounting both the proximity probe and the Proximitor sensor within the same housing cover, allowing field wiring to connect directly to the monitor.

What are the power requirements for this proximity transducer?

The transducer requires -17.5 Vdc to -26 Vdc at 12 mA maximum without barriers, and -23 Vdc to -26 Vdc when used with barriers. Operation more positive than -23.5 Vdc may reduce the linear range.

What materials are used to construct the housing of this assembly?

The housing is constructed from glass-reinforced and conductive-fiber-filled polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) thermoplastic, which strengthens the body, dissipates electrostatic charges, and provides Type 4X and IP66 environmental protection.
