Product Overview
The IC200ALG620 (IC200-ALG-620) is a high-precision, 4-channel analog input module designed specifically for Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTD). Part of the GE VersaMax I/O family, this module provides direct interfacing for temperature sensors without the need for external signal transmitters. It is engineered to support a wide array of RTD types, including Platinum, Nickel, and Copper sensors, as well as resistance inputs. With its 16-bit resolution, the IC200ALG620 is an essential component for high-accuracy thermal monitoring in climate control systems, chemical reactor vessels, and food processing pasteurization loops. Its compact, modular design allows for decentralized placement, reducing expensive specialized wiring runs by digitizing temperature data close to the source.
Technical Configuration
The module supports 2-wire, 3-wire, and 4-wire RTD configurations, providing maximum flexibility for different lead-wire compensation requirements. It features a 16-bit A/D converter that delivers exceptional granularity, allowing the controller to detect minute thermal shifts. The VersaMax architecture enables the electronics to reside on a terminal base (sold separately), which supports "Permanent Wiring"—meaning the module can be hot-swapped without disturbing the sensor field wiring. The IC200ALG620 includes internal diagnostics to detect "Open Wire" or "Short Circuit" conditions on a per-channel basis, with front-facing LED indicators for "OK" and "User Power" status.

Technical FAQs
Does this module support both Celsius and Fahrenheit?
The module reports data in counts or tenths of a degree. The conversion to Celsius or Fahrenheit is typically handled in the PLC hardware configuration (Proficy Machine Edition) or via a scaling block in the logic.
What is the benefit of using 3-wire or 4-wire wiring?
2-wire setups are prone to errors caused by the resistance of the lead wires. 3-wire wiring (the industrial standard) compensates for lead resistance, while 4-wire wiring provides the highest precision by completely eliminating lead-wire resistance effects from the measurement.
Can I mix different RTD types on the same module?
Yes. Through the software configuration, each of the four channels can be independently set to a different RTD type (e.g., Channel 1 as Pt100, Channel 2 as a 0-500 Ohm resistance input).
Engineering & Installation Guide
-
Terminal Base Selection: This module requires a terminal base such as the IC200TBT002 (Barrier style) or IC200TBP002 (Spring style). Ensure the base is correctly keyed to the "Analog" position to prevent incorrect module insertion.
-
Lead-Wire Compensation: For 3-wire and 4-wire installations, ensure all lead wires are of the same gauge and length. Significant differences in wire resistance between the "Excitation" and "Sense" lines can introduce a temperature offset that the module cannot automatically cancel out.
-
Shielding for Low-Voltage Signals: RTD signals are millivolt-level and highly sensitive to noise. Always use shielded twisted-pair cable. Terminate the shield at the PLC terminal base ground and never ground the shield at the sensor end to avoid ground loops that could cause "Signal Wander."
