Product Description

The Allen-Bradley 1771-IFE is an intelligent block transfer analog input module designed to interface analog input signals with Allen-Bradley programmable controllers that feature block transfer capability within the 1771 I/O structure. The 1771-IFE senses up to 16 single-ended or 8 differential analog inputs, converting input signals into proportional four-digit BCD or 12-bit binary values for transfer to the controller data table.

Features

  • Supports up to 16 single-ended or 8 differential analog inputs per module.
  • Per-channel program selectable input ranges for voltage and current.
  • Selectable data format including BCD, two's complement binary, and signed magnitude binary.
  • Programmable digital filtering to reduce process noise effects on input signals.
  • Selectable Real Time Sampling (RTS) for time-based control functions.
  • Software scaling to engineering units on an individual channel basis.
  • Internal configuration jumpers for selecting voltage or current mode.
  • Front panel green RUN and red FAULT status indicator lights.

Applications

  • Process control systems utilizing PLC-2, PLC-3, or PLC-5 processors.
  • Industrial monitoring of voltage and current loop transmitters.
  • Time-based process calculations such as PID control loops and totalization.

Installation Guidelines

  • Chassis Location: The module can be installed in any slot of a 1771 I/O chassis except the leftmost slot, which is reserved for the processor or adapter module.
  • Backplane Keying: Mount plastic keying bands on the backplane connector between pins 10 and 12, and between pins 24 and 26.
  • Shielding and Grounding: Use shielded cable (e.g., Belden 8761) and ground the foil shield and drain wire at the 1771 I/O chassis ground stud or mounting bolt only.
  • Wiring Arm: Connect field signal wiring using the 1771-WG Field Wiring Arm.
  • Unused Channels: Jumper unused channel inputs (+ and -) together and connect them to module common to minimize electrical noise.
  • Common Mode Voltage Limit: Ensure all analog input signals remain within +14.25V DC relative to module common to prevent channel crosstalk.

Compliance and Certifications

  • EMC Directive (89/336/EEC): EN 50081-2 Industrial Emission, EN 50082-2 Industrial Immunity.
  • Low Voltage Directive (73/23/EEC): EN 61131-2 Programmable Controllers.
