Description
The BECKHOFF KS3042 is a 2-channel analog input Bus Terminal designed to measure standard 0 to 20 mA current signals with 12-bit resolution within Beckhoff Bus Terminal I/O systems. Operating on the internal K-bus communication backplane, the KS3042 samples analog process variables from field devices and transfers digitized values with 500 V electrical isolation to the fieldbus coupler or industrial controller.
Equipped with a pluggable wiring assembly, the KS3042 enables fast maintenance and field replacement. The removable connector block allows the terminal housing to be swapped on the DIN rail without disconnecting individual signal wires, minimizing wiring errors and downtime. Field transducers can be powered directly from the module via the integrated 24 V DC power contacts, supporting compact 2-wire and 3-wire sensor wiring in control enclosures.
Features
- Two single-ended analog input channels configured for 0 to 20 mA measurement loops
- Pluggable spring-actuated wiring interface for fast servicing without rewiring individual field conductors
- Integrated 24 V DC sensor power supply derived from the internal terminal power contacts
- 12-bit analog-to-digital conversion with a sampling time of approximately 2 ms
- 500 V electrical isolation between the field signal level and the K-bus backplane
- Front-facing green Run LEDs for bus communication status and red Error LEDs for limit-stop and broken-wire diagnosis
- Tool-free snap-on mounting on standard 35 mm DIN rails conforming to EN 60715

Installation Guidelines
- Always isolate electrical power to the Bus Coupler and power contacts before installing, removing, or servicing the module.
- Snap the KS3042 directly onto a standard 35 mm DIN rail (EN 60715), engaging the side tongue-and-groove connections with adjacent Bus Terminals to ensure reliable contact of the power contacts and K-bus contacts.
- To detach the pluggable wiring connector, release the connector locking tab and withdraw the pre-wired plug without releasing the individual conductors.
- Use a flat-blade screwdriver to actuate the spring clamps when inserting solid, stranded, or ferruled conductors stripped to 9 to 10 mm.
- Connect signal cable shields directly to shield terminals 4 or 8 to ensure optimal noise immunity in high-interference environments.
