Product Description

Product Overview

The 330171-00-12-10-01-CN is a core component of the Bently Nevada 3300 XL 8 mm Proximity Transducer System. This probe is a non-contacting sensor designed to measure the static and dynamic distance between the probe tip and a rotating shaft. It is the global standard for monitoring radial vibration, shaft alignment, and axial position in critical machinery such as gas turbines, steam turbines, and large centrifugal compressors.

This specific model features a 3/8-24 UNF thread (standard for the 330171 series) and is built to withstand extreme industrial environments, including high temperatures and exposure to lubricating oils. The "CN" designation ensures it meets specific regional hazardous area certifications for explosive atmospheres.

Technical Configuration

The part number options define the physical envelope and electrical connectivity of the sensor:

  • Unthreaded Length (00): 0 mm. The entire case length is threaded, allowing the probe to be screwed flush against a mounting surface or deep into a housing.

  • Overall Case Length (12): 120 mm. This provides a long reach for thick machine casings or deep internal mounting brackets.

  • Total Length (10): 1.0 metre (3.3 feet). This is the length of the integrated "pigtail" cable. It is designed to be paired with a 4.0m or 8.0m extension cable to reach the Proximitor® sensor.

  • Connector (01): Features the ClickLoc™ miniature coaxial connector. This "gold-standard" connector includes a protective sleeve to prevent accidental disconnection and environmental contamination.

  • Agency Approval (CN): Country-specific hazardous area approvals (e.g., NEPSI for China or other regional equivalents).

Technical FAQs

Can I use a 330171 probe with a 3300 (non-XL) Proximitor?

While the 3300 XL probes are physically compatible with older 3300 systems, the XL series offers significantly improved performance and a more stable linear range. For the best accuracy and to maintain SIL ratings, it is always recommended to use the XL probe with its matching XL Proximitor.

What is the "Linear Range" and why does it matter?

The linear range is the distance (2.0 mm) over which the probe provides an accurate, proportional voltage output. If the probe is "gapped" too close or too far from the shaft, the signal will "flatline," and the system will not accurately report vibration or position.

What happens if the cable is cut or kinked?

Because the probe operates on the Eddy Current principle, the length and physical integrity of the coaxial cable are part of the tuned circuit. Kinks or cuts change the impedance, which will invalidate the calibration. Damaged cables generally require module replacement.

Engineering & Installation Guide

  • Mechanical Gapping: During installation, the probe must be positioned at the "Electrical Center" of its range. Using a Proximitor and a voltmeter, the probe is typically adjusted until the DC voltage output reads -9.0 VDC (representing a gap of approx. 1.27 mm or 50 mils).

  • Avoid "Cross-Talk": If installing multiple probes (e.g., X and Y vibration), ensure a minimum spacing of 40 mm between probe tips to prevent the magnetic fields from interfering with one another.

  • Target Material: These probes are calibrated by default for AISI 4140 steel. If the target shaft is made of a different alloy (like stainless steel), the system sensitivity will change, and the Proximitor must be recalibrated or the software must account for a "Scale Factor."

  • Connection Security: Always ensure the ClickLoc connector is fully seated. The connector protector (the clear plastic sleeve) should be slid over the junction to lock it against vibration.
