Product Description

Description

The HIMA F 6217 (F6217) is a safety-related 8-channel analog input module designed for safety-critical industrial applications up to SIL 3 according to IEC 61508. The HIMA F 6217 features a redundant, safety-related processor system containing microcontrollers uC1, uC2, and uC3 to execute integrated self-tests directly on the module. Built with safe isolation, the module processes standard current inputs (0/4...20 mA) and voltage inputs (0...5/10 V) with a 12-bit resolution. Internal test routines continuously evaluate A/D converter linearity, A/D converter overflow, channel crosstalk, input filter functionality, and I/O bus communication. Recognized errors generate individual channel bit faults that are interpreted and evaluated within the user program in ELOP II.

Features

  • 8 analog input channels with safe isolation
  • Redundant, safety-related microcontroller structure (uC1, uC2, and uC3)
  • Continuous internal self-testing of A/D converters, memories, input filters, and I/O bus communication
  • Applicable in safety-related systems up to SIL 3 in accordance with IEC 61508
  • Support for redundant current or voltage connections and transmitter supplies
  • Time constant input filter of approximately 10 ms for signal processing
  • Individual channel bit fault detection for safety program evaluation in ELOP II

Applications

  • Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) requiring up to SIL 3 certification
  • Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD)
  • Industrial process control and monitoring
  • Current loop and voltage transmitter signal acquisition
  • High-availability redundant analog measurement loops

Installation Guidelines

  • Shielding & Cabling: Screened cables must be used for field input circuits, and twisted cables are recommended to achieve full interference immunity. Cabling without screening is only acceptable if the transmitter environment is free from interference and distances are relatively short (e.g., inside a cabinet).
  • Power Supply Separation: Cables for the power supply must be locally separated from field input circuits.
  • Grounding: Suitable earthing measures must be strictly applied. Flat pin plug 6.3 x 0.8 mm2 on cable screen connections must be attached to the earth bar located under the slot.
  • Cooling & Temperature: External measures against temperature rises inside cabinets (e.g., installing cabinet cooling fans) must be provided.
  • Unused Inputs: Terminate unused 0...5 V voltage inputs using jumpers. Terminate unused current inputs with the shunt, and unused 0...10 V voltage inputs with the voltage divider in the cable connector.
  • Low-Frequency Interference: In environments subject to ~10 Hz external pressure pulses (such as near piston pumps), enable sensor digital filtering or implement an optional H 7017 low-pass filter to prevent temporary channel bit faults.
  • Special Transmitter Isolation: If using transmitters with internal Zener diodes (e.g., Saab/Rosemount 3300 GWR), galvanic isolation (e.g., HIMA H 6200 HART isolator) must be implemented in the signal line. Note that cable plug Z 7128 must not be used with Zener barriers.
  • Maintenance: No routine maintenance is required. In the event of a module failure, the device de-energizes and must be replaced.
