Product Description

Description

The Woodward 8200-1311 505-XT digital governor is a field-programmable steam turbine control system designed for single valve, split-range, extraction, or admission steam turbines in mechanical drive or generator applications. The 8200-1311 operates as a standalone unit or interfaces with a plant Distributed Control System (DCS) to manage steam turbine operation and parameter limiting. The device controls speed, load, inlet pressure, extraction/admission pressure, auxiliary parameters, exhaust pressure, and acceleration using integrated PID loops. Operating on AC or DC input power, this control system utilizes a built-in graphical user interface (GUI) with an integrated screen and keypad for system setup, online adjustment, and process parameter monitoring.

Features

  • Built-in 8.4-inch LCD graphical display (800x600) and operator keypad
  • Integrated PID controllers for Speed, Cascade, Auxiliary, Inlet, Extraction/Admission, Exhaust, and Acceleration
  • Dual Speed/Load dynamics with automatic PID optimization tuning
  • Auto Start Sequence for warm and cold turbine startup procedures
  • Critical Speed Avoidance with up to three configurable speed bands
  • First-Out Trip and Alarm indication with sequence-of-events time stamping
  • Dynamic operational capability with ratio limiter control for extraction/admission steam maps
  • Field-configurable input and output options supporting standard 4-20 mA and discrete signal types
  • Integrated distributed I/O expansion via Woodward LinkNet nodes over CAN networks
  • Modbus communication capabilities over Ethernet (TCP/UDP) and serial (RS-232/RS-485) links

Applications

  • Single valve steam turbines
  • Split-range steam turbine actuators
  • Controlled extraction steam turbines

Installation Guidelines

  • Mounting Orientation: Mount the unit vertically so that ventilation slots remain unobstructed at the top and bottom. Ensure surrounding ambient air temperature inside the enclosure does not exceed 70 degC.
  • Grounding: Connect the Protective Earth (PE) terminal directly to PE ground using a wire gauge equal to or larger than 4 mm2 (12 AWG) with a properly sized ring lug.
  • Wiring Requirements: Use fixed field wiring suitable for operating temperatures at least 10 degC above the maximum surrounding ambient air temperature.
  • Shielding: Use double-shielded (SSTP) Cat5 cables for Ethernet links (maximum cable length 100 meters). CAN cabling must use shielded twisted-pair wire with unshielded wire exposure limited to less than 3.8 cm (1.5 inches) at terminal connections.
  • Disconnect Device: Install an easily accessible emergency switch or circuit breaker near the controller to disconnect power. The disconnect device must not interrupt the Protective Earth conductor.
  • Power Line Fuses: Utilize external circuit breakers or power-line fusing rated to a minimum of 3.5 A to protect power supply network wiring from short circuits.
