Description
Engineered for high-speed, high-accuracy weighing applications, the Omron NX-RS1201 operates as a high-performance weight and force measurement module within the Sysmac automation platform. This high-performance module interfaces directly with strain-gauge load cells, converting raw analog force signals into highly precise digital data. Designed for seamless integration into EtherCAT and EtherNet/IP networks via NX-series coupler units, the Omron NX-RS1201 features an ultra-fast conversion cycle of 125 microseconds and a 24-bit A/D converter. Its support for Synchronous I/O refreshing allows exact timing coordination with motion control processes, making it highly effective for dynamic checkweighers, filling systems, and tension control applications.

Empirical Engineering Insights
Alternative Models & Compatibility
The NX-RS1201 is fully integrated into the Omron Sysmac platform via NX-series Bus Couplers. When replacing legacy analog input modules, ensure that the target Sysmac Studio project configuration is updated to support this unit's 24-bit output structure. Firmware compatibility must be verified with the controller unit: an NJ-series, NX-series, or NY-series controller requires firmware version 1.10 or higher for full Synchronous I/O operational modes.
Application Pitfalls & Engineering Notes
Because of its ultra-high resolution, the 24-bit A/D converter is highly sensitive to ambient temperature changes. For applications requiring precise measurements, the module requires a full 30-minute warm-up period to stabilize thermal drift coefficients. If the control panel is located near heat-generating equipment (such as variable frequency drives or large transformers), forced ventilation is highly recommended to maintain a steady ambient temperature and prevent drift.
Commissioning & Wiring Tips
To maintain maximum measurement integrity, avoid running the load cell signal cables in parallel with high-voltage AC power lines. Utilize double-shielded, twisted-pair cables for excitation and signal paths. The cable shield must be terminated at a single point—preferably at the functional ground terminal of the NX-series system—to prevent ground loops that introduce electrical noise to the microvolt-level inputs.
Installation Guidelines
CRITICAL SAFETY WARNING
Turn off all power supplies to the PLC rack and field devices before installing, removing, or wiring the module. Failure to de-energize equipment can result in electrical shock, equipment damage, or erratic system behavior.
1
Align the guide hooks on the side of the NX-RS1201 with the adjacent module or bus coupler, then slide the unit onto the DIN rail until it clicks securely into place.
2
Strip the load cell connection wires to the recommended length (typically 8 to 10 mm) and insert them directly into the push-in screwless clamp terminals. Ensure the Excitation (+/-) and Signal (+/-) polarities match your load cell specifications.
3
Connect the functional ground wire to the designated grounding terminal and apply power to the system. Allow the unit to warm up for 30 minutes before executing the zero-point and span calibration through Sysmac Studio.
