Description

The 330104-00-08-90-02-CN is an 8 mm metric proximity probe engineered for the 3300 XL 8mm Proximity Transducer System, utilizing a non-contacting eddy current principle to provide an output voltage directly proportional to the distance between the probe tip and an observed conductive surface. Designed specifically to measure both static position and dynamic vibration values, it operates as a core element in machine condition monitoring, primarily deployed on fluid-film bearing machines, as well as for Keyphasor reference and speed measurements.

The 330104-00-08-90-02-CN probe comes with standard stainless steel armor, which provides robust physical protection for the 75-ohm triaxial cable. Fully compliant with the American Petroleum Institute's (API) 670 Standard (4th Edition) for mechanical configuration, linear range, accuracy, and temperature stability when configured as a standard 5-metre system, this probe supports total backward compatibility and complete component interchangeability across the 3300 and 3300 XL series. This eliminates the need for individual component batch-matching or bench calibration.

Features

  • Integrated Stainless Steel Armor: Formed with a flexible AISI 302 or 304 stainless steel armor with an FEP outer jacket to secure the cable against aggressive industrial physical environment factors.
  • Advanced Cable Bonding: Built using patented TipLoc molding to guarantee a highly resilient bond between the probe tip and case, along with a patented CableLoc design delivering a 330 N (75 lbf) maximum pull strength.
  • Gold-Plated ClickLoc Connectors: Outfitted with corrosion-resistant, gold-plated brass or beryllium copper ClickLoc connectors requiring only finger-tight torque to achieve a secure lock that prevents loosening.
  • Backward Compatibility: Fully interchangeable and backward-compatible with older, non-XL 3300 series 5 mm and 8 mm proximity transducer system components.
  • Rugged PPS Plastic Tip: Encapsulated with high-strength polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) plastic to protect the probe coil against physical impact and chemical exposure.

Applications

  • Turbomachinery and Compressors: Measuring radial vibration and axial position on high-speed fluid-film bearing machinery.
  • Industrial Speed Detection: Serving as a Keyphasor reference sensor for machine speed, phase angle measurements, and overspeed protection loops.
  • Hydroelectric and Gas Turbines: Critical shaft alignment, structural thermal expansion tracking, and dynamic rotor eccentricity profiling.

Installation Guidelines

  • Minimum Target Size: The flat target surface diameter must be at least 15.2 mm (0.6 in). The minimum recommended shaft diameter is 76.2 mm (3 in) to maintain nominal scale factor calibration.
  • Cross-Talk Avoidance: Maintain a minimum separation distance of 40 mm (1.6 in) for axial position measurements, or 38 mm (1.5 in) for radial vibration setups to restrict system cross-talk below 50 mV.
  • Cable Bend Radius: Adhere strictly to the minimum permissible cable bend radius of 25.4 mm (1.0 in) along all armor and non-armored runs.
  • Case Torque Limits: When screwing into the metric machine bracket, torque the probe body to a standard 11.2 Nm (100 inlbf). Do not exceed the maximum rated limit of 33.9 Nm (300 inlbf).
  • Connector Tightening: Thread the ClickLoc connectors finger-tight until the internal mechanism clicks. Do not apply mechanical pliers or tools unless explicit non-XL interface adjustments require an additional 1/8 turn.

Compliance and Certifications

  • EMC Directive: Compliant with European Community Directive 2004/108/EC standards EN61000-6-2 and EN61000-6-4.
  • Maritime Approvals: Approved under ABS 2009 Steel Vessels Rules.
  • Country Specific Approvals (CN): Certified under country-specific regional hazardous area protocols as indicated by the CN option suffix.

What is the function of the CN option suffix in this proximity probe model?

The CN option indicates country-specific regulatory approvals. Users should reference the specific regional field notification documents and reference guides provided for localized hazardous area standards compliance.

What is the minimum recommended shaft diameter for the 3300 XL 8 mm probe?

The recommended minimum shaft diameter is 76.2 mm. Utilizing this system on target shaft diameters smaller than 76.2 mm will generally distort or change the sensor's calibrated scale factor.

Can the 330104-00-08-90-02-CN probe be used directly with older non-XL 3300 series components?

Yes. The probe is backward-compatible and electrically interchangeable with non-XL 3300 series 5 mm and 8 mm systems, though total loop performance will be constrained by the non-XL component specifications.

What happens if the probe is exposed to temperatures below -34 degC?

Exposing the standard probe assembly to ambient temperatures below -34 degC may result in premature failure of the mechanical Viton O-ring pressure seal.

What is the maximum rated pull strength between the probe case and lead?

Due to the patented CableLoc design, the maximum rated tensile strength is 330 N or 75 lbf from the probe case to the probe lead.
