Product Description

Description

The ABB Bailey IEPAS01 is an AC System Power Module for the INFI 90 Modular Power System. It converts 120/240 VAC line power into the regulated DC voltages required by INFI 90 process control modules.

The IEPAS01 provides +5 VDC, +15 VDC, -15 VDC, and +24 VDC outputs. These voltages are distributed through the Module Mounting Unit backplane and DC bus structure to installed process control modules.

The module accepts either 120 VAC or 240 VAC input through a configurable jumper arrangement. Bailey specifies a 47 to 63 Hz operating frequency and a maximum input current of 1.6 A per power supply module.

The INFI 90 power architecture also supports multiple IEPAS01 modules operating in parallel. This allows additional modules to be installed for increased system capacity or N+1 redundancy.

Output and System Characteristics

Parameter Specification
Line Regulation 0.5%
Hold-up Time Greater than 20 ms, fully loaded
Maximum Heat Dissipation 25 W per module
Nominal System Rails +5, +15, -15, +24 VDC

The Modular Power System specifications give a hold-up time above 20 ms and maximum heat dissipation of 25 W per module.

Power Conversion Architecture

The IEPAS01 converts the incoming 120/240 VAC supply to a nominal intermediate DC voltage.

Internal DC/DC conversion stages then generate the four regulated system outputs:

  • +5 VDC
  • +15 VDC
  • -15 VDC
  • +24 VDC

These outputs are routed through the DC bus bar and Module Mounting Unit backplane to the installed INFI 90 process control modules. The Bailey system block diagram shows the IEPAS01 as the system-power source feeding these four rails.

Redundant Power Operation

Multiple IEPAS01 modules can share the system load.

Bailey describes the Modular Power System as supporting N+1 redundancy. Additional power modules can be installed beyond the minimum number required by the cabinet load.

This architecture allows a power module to be removed or fail while remaining modules continue supplying the required load, provided sufficient capacity remains.

Jumper Configuration

The IEPAS01 uses J1 to select the AC input configuration:

Supply J1 Setting
120 VAC Position A
240 VAC Position B

The manual also identifies J2 as part of the bus-voltage monitoring configuration. For IEPAS01 installation, Bailey instructs J2 to use the position for monitoring +5, +15, -15, and +24 VDC.

The quick-reference table confirms J1 Position A for 120 VAC and J1 Position B for 240 VAC operation.

Installation Guidelines

  • Verify the module is identified as IEPAS01 before replacement.
  • Confirm whether the cabinet operates from 120 VAC or 240 VAC.
  • Set J1 for the correct AC input before applying power.
  • Confirm the bus-monitor configuration before installation.
  • Do not adjust factory-set output potentiometers.
  • Observe ESD precautions when handling the module.
  • Install the module into an approved Module Mounting Unit slot.
  • Align the circuit board correctly with the MMU guides.
  • Fully seat the rear board connectors before securing the module.
  • Verify system power status after startup.

Bailey specifically warns that the power module contains ESD-sensitive circuitry and states that the output adjustment potentiometers are factory-set and should not be readjusted.

Replacement Recommendations

  • Match IEPAS01 rather than selecting a visually similar INFI 90 power module.
  • Do not confuse IEPAS01 with IEPAF01.
  • IEPAS01 supplies +5, +15, -15, and +24 VDC system power.
  • IEPAF01 is the field-power version and supplies only +24 VDC.
  • Record the J1 and J2 positions before removing an existing module.
  • Allow the internal filter capacitors to discharge before handling a removed module.
  • Preserve the existing redundant module layout where N+1 operation is required.

The Bailey manual explicitly distinguishes the two modules: IEPAS01 provides +5, +15, -15, and +24 VDC, while IEPAF01 provides +24 VDC only for field-powered devices.

Environmental
