Description

The Bently Nevada 330101-00-47-90-02-00 is an eddy current proximity probe designed as a key hardware component of the 3300 XL 8 mm Proximity Transducer System. This non-contacting sensor provides an analog output voltage directly proportional to the dynamic or static distance between the probe tip and an observed conductive target surface, such as an AISI 4140 steel shaft. Operating as part of a complete loop alongside a 3300 XL extension cable and a 3300 XL Proximitor Sensor, it is purpose-built for critical machine protection applications. It measures fluid-film bearing displacement, radial vibration, axial position, shaft alignment, and rotation speed, while also functioning seamlessly as a Keyphasor reference for phase measurements.

This rugged proximity probe features an unarmored configuration with a standard 3/8-24 UNF thread, optimized for fluid-film bearing monitoring systems across continuous-process heavy industries. Utilizing the patented TipLoc molding method, the probe provides a high-integrity bond between the polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) tip and the stainless steel case. Additionally, the integrated CableLoc design guarantees up to 330 N (75 lbf) of pull strength to ensure operational longevity under persistent thermal and mechanical stress.

Features

  • Advanced Mechanical Integrity: Employs patented TipLoc tip-to-case bonding and CableLoc cable pull strength enhancements for optimal structural robustness.
  • Complete System Interchangeability: Eliminates the necessity for matching or bench calibration by supporting complete interchangeability across compatible probes, extension cables, and Proximitor sensors.
  • Backward Compatibility: Fully interchangeable and physically compatible with legacy non-XL 3300 series 5 mm and 8 mm proximity transducer system components.
  • High Pull Strength: Delivers a maximum rated tensile strength of 330 N (75 lbf) from the probe case to the probe lead.
  • Excellent Linear Range: Delivers a 2 mm (80 mils) linear range beginning at approximately 0.25 mm (10 mils) from the target surface.
  • Pressure Sealing Protection: Outfitted with an integrated Viton O-ring designed to seal differential pressure between the probe tip and the case.

Applications

  • Fluid-Film Bearing Monitoring: Continuous radial vibration and axial position tracking on critical rotating machinery.
  • Turbomachinery Vibration Analysis: Shaft displacement tracking on steam turbines, gas turbines, centrifugal compressors, and large pumps.
  • Speed and Phase Measurement: Serves as a high-precision Keyphasor reference for phase identification and tachometer speed logging.
  • Industrial Sectors: Deployed globally across power generation plants, petrochemical refineries, gas processing facilities, and heavy manufacturing sites.

Installation Guidelines

  • Probe Gap Adjustment: Ensure the probe is mechanical gapped to achieve a target DC voltage of -9 Vdc [approximately 1.27 mm (50 mils)] at the midpoint of the linear range for standard radial vibration settings.
  • Connector Torque Handling: Connect the probe lead to the extension cable finger-tight. Avoid using pliers on gold ClickLoc connectors to prevent damage to the gold-plated mating surfaces.
  • Thread Engagement Depth: Limit thread engagement to a maximum of 0.563 inches to prevent binding or structural compromise during physical enclosure mounting.
  • Minimum Cable Bend Radius: Maintain the recommended minimum bend radius during cable routing to prevent internal conductor breakage or impedance shifts.
  • Moisture Protection: Utilize the provided silicone tape or optional connector protectors around joint interfaces to block liquid ingress and shield connections from environmental contamination.

What is the specific system configuration required for this 9.0 meter probe?

The 9.0 meter total length probe must be paired exclusively with a 9 meter Proximitor Sensor. It cannot be combined with a 5 meter sensor as the system calibration depends directly on total loop length and impedance matching.

What is the nominal electrical resistance value expected for this probe length?

The nominal probe DC resistance (RPROBE) measured from the center conductor to the outer conductor is 9.87 ohms +/- 0.50 ohms for the 9.0 meter option.

What happens if this standard probe is exposed to temperatures below -34 degC?

Exposing the probe to temperatures below -34 degC does not immediately stop electrical operation, but it can cause premature mechanical failure of the internal Viton O-ring pressure seal.
