Description

330173-08-18-10-02-00: This 3300 5 mm proximity probe is a metric, non-armored eddy-current sensor featuring an M8 x 1 thread, an 80 mm unthreaded length (Option 08), and a 180 mm overall case length (Option 18). It is supplied with a 1.0-meter total cable length (Option 10), a standard cable equipped with a miniature coaxial ClickLoc connector (Option 02), and requires no agency approvals (Option 00). The probe is used for non-contact shaft vibration and axial position measurements in rotating machinery where mounting space is constrained.

This configuration is unarmored (unlike the armored 330174 metric sibling) and features a standard FEP insulated cable instead of a FluidLoc option. It pairs with a 3300 XL extension cable and a 3300 XL Proximitor Sensor to supply a voltage output proportional to the gap between the probe tip and a conductive target, such as AISI 4140 steel. A patented TipLoc molding provides a bond between the probe tip and the stainless steel case, protecting the internal coil from process conditions.

Features

  • Option 08 (80 mm unthreaded length): Specifies the unthreaded portion of the metric M8 x 1 threaded stainless steel case.
  • Option 18 (180 mm overall case length): Identifies the total length of the probe's threaded and unthreaded sheath.
  • Option 10 (1.0 meter total length): Provides a 1.0-meter integrated lead cable length for connection to the extension cable.
  • Option 02 (ClickLoc connector): Standard unarmored coaxial cable terminated with a miniature gold-plated coaxial ClickLoc connector.
  • Option 00 (No agency approvals): Standard configuration with no hazardous area certifications.
  • 5 mm Tip Diameter: Fits into tighter clearances and lower-profile spaces than standard 8 mm probe systems.
  • TipLoc Molding: Formed using a patented bonding method to secure the probe tip to the stainless steel body.

Applications

This proximity probe is used in rotating machinery protection and monitoring where standard 8 mm probes cannot fit due to physical clearances. Common applications include:

  • Shaft radial vibration measurements on fluid-film bearing machinery with compact housings
  • Axial rotor position monitoring in small turbines, compressors, and pumps
  • Keyphasor reference and speed measurement applications
  • Machinery diagnostics and predictive maintenance setups

Installation Guidelines

Proper installation of the proximity probe is critical for correct measurement output. Observe the following engineering guidelines:

  • Thread Engagement: Ensure thread engagement does not exceed 12 mm to avoid binding or damage during installation.
  • Torque Limits: Tighten the probe case to a recommended torque of 5.1 N-m (45 in-lb), up to a maximum of 7.3 N-m (65 in-lb).
  • Cable Routing: Maintain a minimum cable bend radius of 25.4 mm (1.0 in) for all unarmored FEP lead cables.
  • Connector Assembly: Clean coaxial connector contacts before mating. 3300 XL "click" connectors are hand-tightened until they click. Do not over-tighten.
  • Grounding: Ensure the probe case and system shield are appropriately earthed during installation.
