Description

The 3500/33 with spare part number 149986-01 is a full-height module that provides 16 independent programmable relay outputs for machinery protection and control switching. This 3500/33 149986-01 module functions within the 3500 Series Machinery Protection System and installs into any standard slot to the right of the Transient Data Interface (TDI) module. Each relay output features independent voting logic configuration and dedicated Alarm Drive Logic, which processes alert, danger, and Not-OK statuses derived from any combination of monitor channels across the rack via the configuration software. Internal communication link tracking is visually monitored via integrated front panel status indicators.

Features

  • 16 fully independent single-pole double-throw (SPDT) relay output channels.
  • Custom voting logic and Alarm Drive Logic supporting complex AND/OR logic configurations.
  • Integrated onboard 250 Vrms arc suppressors installed as a standard protection feature.
  • Switch-selectable operations for Normally De-energized (ND) or Normally Energized (NE) modes in groups of four channels.
  • Visual status verification via OK, TX/RX, and individual channel alarm LEDs.

Applications

  • Automated machinery trip and emergency shutdown logic initialization.
  • Interlocking and annunciator panel control in heavy industrial processing.
  • Critical alarm state relay signaling for turbines, large pumps, and industrial compressors.

Installation Guidelines

  • Slot Placement: Seat the full-height main control module into any available chassis slot located directly to the right of the primary TDI module.
  • Redundant Pairs: Pair the main front-panel module with its corresponding 16-channel relay I/O module positioned directly behind it in the rear chassis space.
  • Logic Programming: Configure the voting logic structures and operational parameters via the 3500 Rack Configuration Software prior to putting the instrumentation loop online.
  • Operation Mode Setup: Set the physical switches to select between Normally De-energized (ND) and Normally Energized (NE) setups for each four-channel group based on plant safety specifications.
  • Hazardous Voltage Warning: Ensure all field terminal wiring points are completely isolated from source power lines prior to installation or maintenance to eliminate high-voltage shock risks.
  • Explosion Hazard Precaution: Do not connect or disconnect any components or field terminations while the active instrumentation circuit is live unless the surrounding zone is verified to be non-hazardous.

Where can this 16-channel relay module be installed inside the rack?

The module is full-height and can be placed in any of the slots located to the right of the Transient Data Interface (TDI) module.

How are the Normally Energized or Normally De-energized operations chosen?

The relay operations are switch-selectable on the hardware in four distinct groups of four channels each.

What is the maximum current rating for standard relays in AC applications?

Standard relays support a maximum switched current of 5 A and a maximum switched power of 1200 VA, up to a maximum voltage of 250 Vac under resistive loads.

What happens if standard electrical loads are applied to gold-plated low current relays?

For low current gold-plated relays, the maximum switching current before sustaining component damage is strictly limited to 5 mA for AC up to 120Vac.
