Installation Guidelines

Mounting Surface Preparation

Install the sensor on a clean, flat, and rigid mounting surface. Remove paint, rust, grease, and debris before installation to ensure proper mechanical coupling and accurate vibration transmission.

Poor mounting surfaces may reduce high-frequency response and introduce measurement errors.

Mounting Procedure

Use the supplied ¼-28 mounting stud for installation.

Installation recommendations:

  • Ensure proper thread engagement
  • Tighten the sensor securely
  • Avoid excessive mounting torque
  • Prevent sensor base distortion during installation

Cable Routing

Use shielded twisted-pair cable as recommended by the manufacturer.

For best signal quality:

  • Keep cables away from high-voltage wiring
  • Avoid routing near VFD output cables and large motors
  • Prevent sharp cable bends
  • Secure the cable to reduce movement-induced noise

Recommended cable length should not exceed 100 feet.

Connector Protection

The sensor uses a top-exit 2-pin MIL-C-5015 style connector.

In wet or outdoor environments:

  • Fully tighten the connector
  • Use moisture-resistant cables and connectors
  • Regularly inspect sealing integrity

The hermetic sensor body helps protect against moisture ingress when properly installed.

Power Supply Requirements

The AM3100T2-Z2 requires an IEPE constant-current power source.

Required electrical supply:

  • Voltage source: 18–30 Vdc
  • Current regulating diode: 2–10 mA

Verify compatibility with the monitoring system before commissioning.

Grounding Practices

The sensor is case isolated and internally shielded to help reduce ground loop problems.

Recommended practices:

  • Use single-point grounding
  • Avoid multiple shield grounding locations
  • Inspect grounding continuity during installation

Hazardous Area Installation

The AM3100T2-Z2 is approved for Zone 2 hazardous locations.

Installation must comply with:

  • Install per drawing 117M2767

Ensure all associated wiring, barriers, and cable glands meet hazardous-area installation requirements.
