Description

The Emerson VE5009 is a modular, plug-and-play system power supply engineered to provide stable, reliable power to DeltaV controllers and I/O interfaces. As an integral component of the DeltaV M-series infrastructure, this 24/12-VDC Enhanced System Power Supply supports dual input voltage configurations, efficiently accommodating both 12 VDC and 24 VDC plant bulk power. When operating on 24 VDC bulk power, the VE5009 delivers up to 8 Amps of current directly down the LocalBus to the I/O subsystem, eliminating the need for standalone 24-to-12 VDC intermediate bulk power converters. The device features flexible load-sharing capabilities to facilitate system scaling and power redundancy, comprehensive under/over-voltage fault detection to safeguard downstream logic electronics, and absolute isolation between system power and field circuits.

Features

  • Plug-and-play modular design allows seamless insertion into any horizontal 2-wide or vertical 4-wide power/controller carrier slot.
  • Utilizes internal power buses within the carrier system, eliminating the requirement for external interconnecting cables between the power supply, controller, and I/O interface carriers.
  • Dual input capability supports flexible integration into existing 12 VDC or 24 VDC power systems.
  • Supports load-sharing architectures to economically implement 1-to-N or 1-to-1 system power redundancy.
  • Integrated fault detection monitors voltage limits to ensure automatic cold restart capabilities for the controller following bulk power anomalies.
  • Dedicated front panel LED indicators provide real-time diagnostic visibility for normal DC operation and error status.
  • Built-in 2-wire normally open relay alarm contact changes state immediately upon internal output drift or bulk supply input collapse.
  • Restricts system and field power routing to independent isolated paths when sourced from a common 24 VDC system.
  • Quick-mount bulk power input connector simplifies routing and allows efficient module replacement compared to conventional fixed terminal blocks.

Applications

  • Distributed Control Systems (DCS) system logic and interface power management
  • Critical process control loop automation and redundant carrier power networks
  • Heavy industrial process plants requiring hazardous location certified power modules

Installation Guidelines

  • Carrier Attachment: The module must only be mounted onto a pre-installed, T-type DIN rail-supported DeltaV Power/Controller carrier (including 2-wide horizontal, 4-wide vertical, or Vertical Plus variants).
  • Power Constraints (Live-Work): This unit cannot be removed or inserted while the system power is energized. Ensure the bulk source is fully isolated before handling.
  • 12 VDC Passthrough Conditions: The external voltage source feeding this module in 12 VDC passthrough mode must not generate or contain a potential exceeding 12.6 VDC in normal operation and must supply no more than 16 A maximum.
  • Ventilation and De-rating: Ensure clear spacing around the carrier array to allow unhindered air convection, especially when operating ambient boundaries approach the 60 to 70 degC de-rating window.
  • Hazardous Area Wiring: Refer to official instruction documents 12P2046 (Zone 2) or 12P1293 (Class 1 Division 2) for boundary containment requirements and grounding guidelines.

Compliance and Certifications

  • FM Approved: Class 1 Division 2, Groups A, B, C, D; Hazardous Locations; Temperature Rating T4
  • ATEX Certified: II 3G Ex nA nC IIC Gc; Certificate No: Nemko 07ATEX3058U
  • CSA Certified: LR109492
  • CE Approved
