Description

The ICS Triplex T8451 is a 40-channel Trusted TMR 24 V DC digital output module.

It controls up to 40 field devices in safety and critical control applications.

Triple Modular Redundant circuitry is applied across every output channel.

This architecture maintains output control while detecting and isolating internal faults.

The module continuously tests channel voltage, current, stuck-on conditions, and stuck-off conditions.

Automatic line monitoring detects open circuits, short circuits, and field load faults.

The T8451 also provides galvanic isolation, electronic overcurrent protection, and onboard Sequence of Events reporting.

Its 40 outputs are arranged into five isolated power groups, with eight channels in each group.

Installation Guidelines

Static Handling Precautions

  • Observe standard electrostatic discharge precautions before handling the module.
  • Do not touch exposed connector pins.
  • Do not remove or open the module housing.

Pre-Installation Inspection

  • Inspect the module housing before installation.
  • Check rear connector pins for bending or physical damage.
  • Do not attempt to straighten damaged connector pins.

Module Keying

  • Remove polarization pins 1, 5, and 6 from the cable hood.
  • Confirm the cable hood matches the required module keying configuration.

Module Insertion

  • Release both ejector tabs using the approved release key.
  • Align the module carefully with its designated chassis slot.
  • Press the upper and lower fascia sections until the module is fully seated.
  • Close both ejector tabs until they lock into position.

Termination and Wiring

  • Command unused outputs to the off state within the application.
  • Connect each unused output through a 4K7, 0.5 W resistor to zero volts.
  • Fit dummy-load resistors to unused outputs to prevent NO-LOAD fault indications.

Compliance and Certifications

  • IEC 61508: TÜV certified for SIL 3 applications.

ICS Triplex T8451 Trusted TMR 24 Vdc Digital Output Module

What happens when an open or short circuit occurs on a channel?

The module detects the fault automatically via line monitoring, updates the line fault status for that specific channel, and triggers the configured front panel LED state without affecting other output channels.

Does this module require external fuses for output protection?

No external fuses are required. The module features automatic per-channel electronic overcurrent protection and an internal non-replaceable fusible link for overall protection.

Can this module be replaced while the system is online?

Yes, the module supports online hot-replacement using dedicated Companion Slot or SmartSlot configurations.

How are the output channels powered?

Outputs are powered in five isolated Power Groups of eight channels each.
