Description

The Yokogawa SAI143-S33 is a high-reliability current input module designed for mounting on the safety node unit and safety control unit within the ProSafe-RS safety instrumented system. This module plays a critical role in safety functions by inputting 4 to 20 mA signals from field instruments directly into the Safety Control Station (SCS). It supports dual-redundant configurations to achieve enhanced system availability and fault tolerance. The SAI143-S33 features standard individual channel configuration pins for 2-wire or 4-wire transmitters and provides module isolation for its 16 processing channels.

Features

  • Dual Redundancy: Supports full dual-redundant configuration to eliminate single points of failure in safety-critical applications.
  • Flexible Sensor Hookup: Individual channel setting via pins to accommodate both 2-wire and 4-wire field transmitter arrangements.
  • Simultaneous Power Management: Built-in transmitter power supply ON/OFF function across all 16 channels simultaneously, facilitating alarm resets for Fire and Gas devices.
  • Robust Isolation: Delivers module-level galvanic isolation protecting internal system electronics from hazardous field transients.

Applications

  • Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
  • Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD)
  • Fire and Gas (F&G) System integration and device resetting
  • Process industry safety monitoring and critical current loop sourcing

Installation Guidelines

  • Module Siting: Mount the current input module onto a compatible safety node unit or safety control unit chassis.
  • Redundancy Setup: When implementing dual-redundant pairs, order an additional tracking module with identical technical specifications but without specific optional suffix accessories.
  • Safety Isolation Barriers: Do not connect Zener barriers directly to this hardware. Utilize an approved isolation barrier when deploying an intrinsically safe instrumented loop.
  • False Insertion Prevention: When deploying option /PRP, utilize the specified matching field signaling cable variant equipped with the corresponding option /SAI143 to ensure functional physical key alignment.

Compliance and Certifications

  • ISA Standard G3: Certified for installation within corrosive industrial environments meeting the G3 severity specifications.

Technical Datasheet

Yokogawa SAI143-S33 ProSafe-RS Analog Input Module

Can Zener barriers be connected directly to the module?

No, Zener barriers cannot be connected to this module. An isolation barrier must be used when an intrinsically safe instrumented system is required.

What is the purpose of the transmitter power supply ON/OFF function?

This function allows the module to turn off the transmitter power supplied to all 16 channels simultaneously under a 2-wire setting, which enables resetting the alarm state of Fire and Gas devices.

How is the 2-wire or 4-wire mode configured on the module?

The 2-wire or 4-wire operational mode is set individually for each channel using dedicated physical setting pins on the module.
