Product Overview
The KL1819 (KL 1819) is a high-density digital input terminal designed to interface 24 V DC control signals from the field level to the K-bus. Featuring 16 channels in a single 12 mm housing, it is optimized for applications where cabinet space is at a premium and a high number of inputs is required. The KL1819 utilizes 1-wire connection technology, making it ideal for multi-channel sensors that share a common ground. In sectors such as discrete manufacturing, logistics sorting, and shipbuilding (DNV GL certified), this terminal provides a cost-effective and robust solution for acquiring digital signals from sensors, switches, and proximity probes with a fast 0.2 ms filter.
Technical Configuration
The KL1819 architecture is compliant with the EN 61131-2 (Type 1/3) specification, ensuring broad compatibility with a variety of industrial sensors. Its high-density 16-channel design requires the use of 1-wire connections, where the 24 V signal is connected to the terminal, and the common reference (ground) is typically handled via a separate potential distribution terminal. The module is engineered for global industrial use, featuring 500 V electrical isolation between the K-bus logic and the field potential. Despite the high channel count, it remains highly energy-efficient, drawing only 20 mA from the K-bus.

Technical FAQs
What is the benefit of the "Type 3" input specification?
The Type 3 specification (EN 61131-2) used by the KL1819 features a higher current draw (3 mA) compared to older Type 1 inputs. This provides better noise immunity and ensures reliable switching for modern electronic sensors that require a minimum load to function correctly.
Does the KL1819 require any software configuration?
No. The KL1819 is a "plug-and-play" module that requires no address settings or software configuration. The 16-bit input image is automatically mapped into the K-bus process image when connected to a Bus Coupler (such as the BK1120 or BK9000).
Is this terminal suitable for marine applications?
Yes. The KL1819 holds DNV GL certification, making it suitable for use in maritime and offshore environments where vibration, humidity, and temperature fluctuations are standard.
Engineering & Installation Guide
1-Wire Connection and Grounding:
Since the KL1819 uses 1-wire technology to achieve its 16-channel density, only the signal line from the sensor is connected to the terminal. To complete the circuit, you must ensure that all sensors are connected to the same 0 V DC potential. It is common practice to mount a potential distribution terminal (like the KL9187) adjacent to the KL1819 to provide a centralized ground point for the 16 sensors.
Wiring for High-Density Terminals:
The KL1819 uses spring-actuated terminals. For a 16-channel module, cable management is critical. Use solid or flexible conductors with a cross-section up to 1.5 mm². Ensure a stripping length of 8–9 mm. To prevent wiring errors, it is recommended to use the BZ series labeling strips provided by Beckhoff to clearly identify each of the 16 inputs.
Hazardous Area (Ex) Requirements:
This terminal is ATEX and IECEx certified for Zone 2 (Ex ec IIC T4 Gc). For installation in hazardous areas, the terminal must be mounted in an enclosure that meets the requirements of at least IP54. Always verify that the E-bus power contacts are clean and the side-by-side mounting "double slot and key" connection is fully engaged to prevent arcing due to loose contacts.
